33 best hotels in London, according to Glamour editors who have stayed in them

We'll be the ones to say it: the London hotel scene is the best in the world.
While the likes of New York, Paris and Munich are home to some pretty spectacular properties, London is undoubtedly home to the greatest number of genuinely high-end hotels in Europe. So, where do you start?
It's seemed as though a new sprawling landmark or boutique hangout has been popping up across the capital every week this year. And with over 120,000 hotel rooms in London, the choice of where to stay – whether you're a staycationing Londoner or a newbie to the capital – can be an overwhelming one.
Lucky, then, that GLAMOUR editors have been busy spending the night in hotel rooms from Knightsbridge to Green Park, Chelsea to Soho, to curate a shortlist of the absolute best hotels in London. We know, it's a tough job etc.
Though famous London hotels like the Dorchester and The Ritz will forever be firm GLAMOUR favourites, our shortlist of 33 properties features an eclectic mix. From old Georgian buildings to Victorian townhouses, penthouse apart-hotels and boutique hotels that place interior design at the forefront, these London hotels are a step above the rest.

What area in London is best to stay in?
If you’re a tourist visiting for the first time, you’ll be pleased to know that lots of the best hotels in London are located in the West End, where you'll find a heap of world-famous tourist spots. Look for hotels in Soho, Piccadilly, Mayfair or Covent Garden for bars, shops, attractions, theatres and restaurants on your doorstep.
If you want to be able to enjoy park walks pre-breakfast, properties overlooking St. James Park, Green Park and Hyde Park will tickle your fancy – while Southbank hotels will put you a stones-throw from the river. Elsewhere, East London hotels in neighbourhoods like Shoreditch, Dalston and Hackney are the best choices for creatives. The music and art scene there is second-to-none.

James McDonaldSea Containers London, Southbank
Best for: Interior enthusiasts
Price per night: from £850 per night for a Cabin Suite
Address: 20 Upper Ground, South Bank, London, SE1 9PDWhy we love it: Sea Containers, on London’s South Bank, is a hotel most Londoners have definitely walked past on a weekend stroll. Hidden within this riverside landmark is a design scheme reminiscent of a 1920s transatlantic cruise liner; its four one-of-a-kind themed cabin suites transport you to a bygone era of the 20th century. If you love interior design and enjoy immersing yourself in Art Deco and Edwardian history (there’s a Phaidon-curated book collection in each suite), then read on…
We stayed in the Mid-Century Suite, where dark woods add warmth, Piet Mondrian–inspired tones inject life, and vintage furniture has clearly been thoughtfully hand-picked. The result is a sophisticated 1950s environment that makes you feel like you’ve really made it. Nothing feels cheap or staged here either - from original ‘handkerchief’ vases to real, framed artworks. Set back on the 15th floor, the suite boasts sweeping views of the Thames (telescope included) and feels like a space where you can genuinely switch off, observe London, and feel completely at home.
And one last thing: everything in the minibar that’s there when you arrive is complimentary, including a half bottle of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée and even a Sea Containers Lobby Scent candle. Stunning.

The Waldorf Hilton, Covent Garden
Best for: Opera-adjacent luxury
Price per night: £429
Address: Aldwych, London WC2B 4DDWhy we love it: A perfect pick for opera and theatre fans, soak up the Edwardian splendour at The Waldorf Hilton, just a stone’s throw from the Royal Opera House and Covent Garden. It may have been built in the 1990s but the hotel has a serious old-time vibe, with afternoon tea served as well as a special “T room” with a tea sommelier offering Tea Tasting Experiences. If you're after a stronger drink, head on down to to Good Godfrey's, named after the hotel's original house band, Howard Godfrey and The Waldorfians. Sip away amongst the oak panel walls and 1920s music.
Definitely make time for the hotel’s South African restaurant, The Pot Luck Club Pop-Up, which serves up a range of Cape Town flavours that we were obsessed with, including taco 2.0, fish slider, penang pork belly, and chickpea fries. Delectable.
James McDonaldLondon Hilton, Park Lane
Best for: Classic central London luxury.
Price per night: from £480.
Address: 22 Park Lane, W1K 1BE.Why we love it: Situated on Park Lane with sweeping city views, this iconic Hilton property offers a polished, quintessentially London stay. The 453 rooms and suites (many of which look out over the distinct greenery of Hyde Park, just across the road) have only recently gone through a glamorous refurb, now combining modern comforts with the type of timeless elegance you'd expect from one of the capital's most sought-after addresses. Mornings here are distinctly relaxed despite the central London postcode, beginning with breakfast at the Park Lane Brasserie, where a selection of freshly prepared pastries, eggs and seasonal dishes sets a relaxed tone for the day.
In the evening, Revery Bar (incidentally, one of our favourite romantic date night spots in London too) offers a classic setting with soft lighting, plush seating, small plates (without one dud amongst them) and an extensive whisky and cocktail collection.
For the most memorable experience, request a Park View Suite. The vistas over Hyde Park are particularly striking at sunrise, and if you're staying with children in tow, the separate lounge space provides the perfect spot for the Hilton team to set up a gorgeous teepee scene, complete with tea lights.
Will PryceThe Chelsea Townhouse, Chelsea
Best for: A boutique west London stay.
Price per night: from £425.
Address: 26 Cadogan Gardens, SW3 2RP.Why we love it: From the Iconic Luxury Hotels group comes this hidden west London gem, which feels like your own tranquil, private sanctuary in one of the city's most exclusive postcodes. The newly-refurbished 36 rooms and suites are impeccably-designed, with high ceilings and large bay windows overlooking the private Cadogan Gardens, which guests can access through the garden room on the ground floor, where a delicious breakfast is served (don't miss the Chelsea buns!). For dinner, book at the Hans Bar & Grill, where exceptional steaks, succulent seafood and hearty salads are served alongside an extensive wine and cocktail list.
For a truly special stay, and for the best view over the gardens, ask for one of the Chelsea Garden Suites (there's a particularly beautiful blossom tree which blooms right outside one of the suite's windows in spring).

The Peninsula London, Belgravia
Best for: An ultra luxe stay in the heart of the action.
Price per night: from £1300.
Address: 1 Grosvenor Place, SW1X 7HJ.Why we love it: The latest addition to one of the world's most prestigious hotel brands, rooms at The Peninsula London have been in high demand ever since their doors opened in September 2023. Towering high over Belgravia with sweeping views over Hyde Park, this is where you want to stay if you want to be slap-bang in the heart of things – attractions such as Harrods and Buckingham Palace are within walking distance and you're practically surrounded by royal parks. The 190 rooms and suites designed by Peter Marino are filled with light thanks to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, many offering spectacular views over the park, complemented by sleek, neutral interiors. When you're not indulging in world-class food masterfully created by Michelin-starred chef Claude Bosi at Brooklands restaurant, take some time to bliss out in the just-opened spa and wellness centre, where you'll find a magnificent indoor swimming pool and an impressive list of relaxing treatments.

Nobu Hotel London, Shoreditch
Best for: Five-star luxury in the heart of east London.
Price per night: from £230.
Address: 10-50 Willow St, EC2A 4BH.Why we love it: After a long exploring the bustling, buzzy area of Shoreditch, there's no better place to call home for the night than the east London iteration of the world-adored Nobu hotel family. Here, sleek and contemporary Japanese design meets impossibly cool industrial decor – exposed concrete walls and matte black furniture meets enormous swivel TVs at the foot of the (ridiculously comfy) king bed. If budget allows, book a suite; there's nothing like watching the hustle and bustle of Great Eastern St below as you sip a sundowner on your own private balcony.
As with its sister properties world-over, the jewel in the crown of Nobu Shoreditch is its Japanese-Peruvian cuisine served in the subterranean restaurant. Tuck into fresh, zesty sushi, sashimi and ceviche before the melt-in-your-mouth main dishes come out (think black cod miso; rock shrimp tempura and wagyu ribeye). Stay for a cocktail in the chic, dimly-lit bar (don't leave without trying the yuzu and apple martini), or if the weather allows, head outside to the just-launched garden terrace.

The Landmark Hotel, Marylebone
Best for: Five-star luxury in the heart of trendy Marylebone.
Price per night: From £500.
Address: 222 Marylebone Rd, London NW1 6JQ.Why we love it: The Landmark is a hidden retreat in the bustling heart of Marylebone, with old glamour vibes. A true landmark not only in name, it's a larger-than-life hotel! Stepping into the Landmark feels as though you have left the city behind and stepped into another world.
At the heart of the hotel is its famed Winter Garden restaurant. With a modern European menu with a twist, you dine in an oasis-like setting surrounded by palm trees – not quite what you might expect from a central London hotel.
Once you have enjoyed your day in the city, you can unwind in the hotel spa which has a swimming pool, private gym and spa, before retiring for the night in one of the hotel’s spacious bedrooms which come with a full suite marble bathroom.

Raffles London at The OWO, Whitehall
Best for: Historical grandeur.
Price per night: from £1,100.
Address: 57 Whitehall, SW1A 2BX.Why we love it: The first UK opening from the iconic Raffles hotel chain, Raffles London occupies one of the most notable historical buildings in the capital. Formerly Britain's Old War Office, the September 2023 opening – after a £1.5 billion refurbishment over seven years – marked the first time the OWO opened its doors to the public since its conception in 1906.
The design, led by renowned architect Thierry Despont, is as grand and stately as you'd imagine, without being stuffy – marble staircases, glistening chandeliers, beautiful fabrics, and impressive details with historical nods, such as the window treatments reminiscent of the House Guards uniforms.
You won't go hungry here, with nine restaurants and three bars to choose from; nor will you feel the stresses of day-to-day life thanks to the enormous wellness storeys, featuring a Guerlain spa and impressive 20-metre pool.

Art'otel, Battersea
Best for: A glossy stay near the all-new Power Station.
Price per night: from £364 per night.
Address: 1 Electric Blvd, SW11 8BJ.Why we love it: The mighty Battersea Power Station is your panorama from the luxe rooftop bar at the Art'otel, which is, essentially, the perfect spot for exploring all that the recently-revived Electric Boulevard has to offer.
Like other Art'otel locations, bold, artsy interiors are what you can expect here – my Junior Suite housed statement colour-pop pieces including a plush pink king-sized bed and splashy art on the walls (not to mention two bathrooms with luxe rainfall showers).
The Art'otel is a real destination, with a dreamy rooftop pool and wellness space – where guests can enjoy skyline yoga classes during stays on Fridays and Saturdays. Equally, the hotel's aforementioned JOIA bar is not to be missed (for both the unique cocktails and the best views of the Power Station).
Best of all, Battersea's all-new shopping destination is right on the doorstep if retail therapy is what you're after – but it's equally easy to head further afield, since Waterloo station is just a few stops away.

The Clermont London, Charing Cross
Best for: Close proximity to theatres.
Price per night: from £229.
Address: The Strand, Westminster Borough, London, WC2N 5HX.Why we love it: If you're looking for somewhere that's equal parts steeped in history as it is close to everything you could possibly need in London, The Clermont at Charing Cross is the place. With it's own access to the station (yes, really), this 4-star hotel is on the doorstep of the city's most favoured theatres – which is exactly why I wanted to stay here.
From The Savoy and Adelphi theatres just up the road, to the Lyceum in Covent Garden and Kit Kat Club round the corner, you won't find anywhere as practical to stay than this.
The rooms themselves are dreamy, too. I stayed in a super spacious studio room (which featured stunning views of Trafalgar Square) and felt right at home thanks to the free minibar, Nespresso coffee machine, large bathtub and seriously comfy king-size bed. Not that you'll be left needing anything, but the Grade II-listed building also has a 24-hour front desk where staff are happy to provide everything from directions to facts about the residence. I look forward to going back.

1 Hotel Mayfair
Best for: A sustainable stay.
Price per night: from £430 per night.
Address: 3 Berkeley Street, W1J 8NE.Why we love it: A quiet, newly-opened sanctuary in Mayfair's famous Berkeley Street, 1 Hotel Mayfair is a welcome marriage of sustainability and luxury to the London hotel scene. The nine-story property was only partly refurbished, meaning 80% of the exisiting structure was retained – saving approximately 4,200 tonnes of carbon – and the hotel boasts almost 400 square metres of green walls, with over 1,300 plants on display. Other eco touches include reclaimed and raw materials throughout the hotel, such as the oak tree reception desk. While this verdant oasis of a hotel brings the outside in, the central location means you're in prime position for exploring some of London's most famous parks, including Greek Park, St James's Park and Hyde Park. The hotel's main restaurant Dovetale is helmed by two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers, and the exquisite Bamford Wellness Spa opened at the end of 2023.
Will PryceKimpton Fitzroy, Bloomsbury
Best for: Shopping and theatre trips.
Price per night: from £289.
Address: 1-8 Russell Square, WC1B 5BE.Why we love it: Set in a Grade II listed landmark building that occupies the eastern flank of Russell Square in Bloomsbury, the lavish property boasts a striking terracotta exterior and designer interiors, plus it's within walking distance from Covent Garden, Fitzrovia and The British Museum.
Originally designed in 1898, you can all but smell the history from the moment you step into the grand, marble lobby. This experience continues all the way up into your room, and is only complemented by modern furnishings courtesy of Tara Bernerd & Partners. Top tip: don't skip the opportunity to have a bath. As luxe as the rain showers are, you'll feel like a new person after a soak in one of their free-standing roll-top tubs.
The hotel has several dining options, including Burr&Co. (a casual coffeehouse by day and a wine bar by night), the lavish Fitz's bar where you choose your cocktail based on what painting appeals to you, and the Galvin Bar and Grill.
Ben Carpenter PhotographyThe Prince Akatoki, Marble Arch
Best for: Zen vibes and delicious Japanese food.
Price per night: From £355.
Address: 50 Great Cumberland Pl, W1H 7FD.Why we love it: Conveniently located while still giving hidden gem vibes, The Prince Akatoki is a great option if you prefer more of a boutique hotel (with modern, mid-century decor no less). The hotel's Japanese influences run throughout, from the delicious food within the fine dining TOKii restaurant to the rooms, where sweet touches include your very own kimono (so comfy) and a traditional teapot.
Yoga lovers will also be pleased to find their very own yoga mat in each room, too, which also feature roomy walk-in showers and airy textures – only adding to the Prince Akatoki's relaxed, retreat-like feel. Marylebone high street is just a short walk away, as is Marble Arch tube station and bustling Oxford Street – for the shopaholics out there.
Don't miss dinner at TOKii, where the sushi menu will blow your mind (as will the seared Wagyu steak).

The Langham, Marylebone
Best for: Room service & chill.
Price per night: from £608.
Address: 1C Portland Pl, W1B 1JA.Why we love it: One of the most timelessly classic hotels in the capital, The Langham sits at the top of Regent Street and is just a five-minute walk from Oxford Circus tube station and the joys of Carnaby. While the notably elegant interiors are enough to keep you calm and collected in the safe haven of your bedroom, the award-winning Palm Court and Artesian Bar are well worth a visit.
Elsewhere, the Wigmore restaurant continues to deliver culinary excellence overseen by the Two Michelin star chef, Michel Roux Jr., while the spa boasts a 20-yard swimming pool, sauna, steam rooms and a fully-equipped gym. A grande dame well worth the expense.

One Hundred, Shoreditch
Best for: Hanging in Hackney.
Price per night: from £269.
Address: 100 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6JQ.Why we love it: An independent hotel in the heart of vibrant Shoreditch, the cool and contemporary One Hundred sits pretty on Shoreditch High Street. Oozing style, clean lines, neutral colour schemes and hybrid dining and workspaces – plus panoramic views of the city from the rooftop bar and terrace – its an endlessly cool place to stay. Look our for bespoke art by the hotel's Creative Director Jacu Strauss, as well as blackout blinds in each of the bedrooms for your most restful night's kip of the year.

Kick back and relax from rooms perched high above the skyline – complete with bright bay windows, patchwork cushions and colourful trinkets – before venturing down to Madera. That is, the hotel's reimagined Mexican restaurant, sitting alongside The Nest skyline bar. Downstairs, you'll also find the Backyard coffee shop and Pizzeria Mozzaa – the UK's first restaurant by acclaimed US chef Nancy Silverton.

The Standard, Kings Cross

Famed for its iconic external red elevator, it's joyfully decorated and home to 266 rooms. From snug “Cosy Cores” to terraced suites with outdoor bathtubs that overlook the iconic St Pancras station, there's something for every budget. A little like the fact that there's somewhere to eat for every taste, too. A totally timeless classic. It's a hotel which is rumoured to have been loved by Ralph Lauren, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz – say no more – and famed for housing one of the best bars in London: The Connaught Bar. A “mini Art Deco masterpiece”. Rooms are classic, despite having been given a 21st-Century touch-up just a little over a decade ago, with the four-poster beds a standout feature.
