I am a total faux-tan fan and even though my dress was basically covering me from neck to toe, I would not have wanted to be without my beloved Sienna X. It was also the first time I wore a bright colour and nothing complements red better than golden skin. To prep I scrubbed my body and then didn’t apply any lotion so my skin would absorb the tan better. My trick for a deep tan is to go for two layers of 10% DHA formula rather than one layer of 12% because the tan will last longer and fade more evenly. To maintain I slather myself in the gorgeous Sienna X Radiance Body Balm (£11.95) – I am so addicted that I begged my tanning guru Sophie Gordon for her Jumbo Salon Bottle.

If you’re getting your makeup done, it makes sense to snag your favourite backstage team! At the shows this year I saw MAC’s Lynsey Alexander assisting the legendary Lucia Pieroni so jumped at the chance to meet her in the Soho store for my WOTY look. In their VIP zone, tucked away at the back of the store, Lynsey and I talked about the colours I usually wear, what kind of dress I was wearing and the kind of lashes I might like. I’d already had a braided updo at Four London – having your hair done first makes it so much easier to see what makeup works.

Lynsey cleansed and prepped my skin before applying a combination of Studio Fix Fluid foundation (£19.50) and Studio Finish Concealer (£13.50). She built up a brown smoky eye with Paint Pot in Constructivist (£13.50) and Technakohl Liner in Graphblack (£14), finishing with individual lashes and a slick of Lipstick in Ravishing (£13.50).

I went to see Aaron at Headmasters in Mayfair for my Glamour Awards ‘do and he was so quick, I was in and out of there within the hour. After a bit of back-combing here and a few grips there, my bob was transformed into what I would describe as a ‘60s style nip-tuck’. Not the easiest of ‘dos to try at home, but isn’t that what talented, reasonably priced hair dressers like Aaron are here for?

Aaron’s top tip to make sure any up-do stays put (apart from hairspray) is to spritz it with Tecni Art Pli Thermo-Fixing Spray (£10.70, L’Oreal Professionnel at feelunique.com) when it’s wet. ‘It’s light-weight but still manages to give the hair firm grip’, he says. He also recommends mixing your volumising mousse with a hair oil ‘to make the texture of your hair less coarse and more supple.’ I loved the finished result and it stayed up all night - I can’t believe it was held up with just a few pins!

We were lucky enough to have Nails Inc team in the building to treat the GLAMOUR girls to some manicures so I didn’t have to travel far to get pampered. There were over 20 shades to choose from and after trying to figure out what compliments a black dress and red toes, as well as my makeup by the Bobbi Brown team, I went for the shade Basil Street (£11) - neutral but still opaque.

The lovely Nails Inc manicurist let me in on a little red carpet trick. Apply a cuticle oil as a final step to give your nails (and skin around the nails) a smooth, glowing finish!
