Will ‘60s style body ever go out of style again? We hope not, because we love this 2009 take on the classic beehive. Best worn on ‘day-after hair’, backcomb the crown to create height, then smooth the outer sections a little and pin. Sure it’s sculpted, but ‘softness’ is key to making this look ‘current’.

The ‘shag’ was the hottest look of this summer, and its set to stick around for party season too. This sharp, cool style suits anyone and, with face-framing layers, it looks better as it grows. Team with a glamorous, sweeping side fringe to give the look an autumn/winter update.

Give your on-trend crop a rebellious twist for party season by focusing on boyish height and flicks – then bring back your feminine side with a blush of pretty pink colour (wash-in/wash-out colour is fabulous fun and just perfect for parties).

Up-dos are always big news come party season, but 2009-10 trends call for a looser, more fluid approach. Give top knots the ‘now’ treatment by setting hair in rollers then twisting into a loose buns, freeing a few tendrils as you go, then secure with Kirby grips. Earn extra ‘cool’ points for a side parting.

‘Halo’ hair looks set to stay around for another season – it may look tricky, but it’s actually fairly simple to recreate. The key to nailing this look is to keep the finish a little haphazard, with loose lengths and random-sized braiding. If your hair isn’t long enough (or you find plaits just too difficult to master), fake it with a braided hair piece.

Androgynous crops and over-sized quiffs are so now – just look to Celebdom for inspiration; the oh-so hip likes of Rihanna and Sarah Harding are rocking this trend for autumn/winter. Just be sure to stock up on hairspray.

The ‘afro’ has never been cooler, so embrace your natural kink. Take a walk on the wild side this party season with your ‘fro in full swing.

A hip melange of ‘60s body and Victoriana regality – this is one up-do guaranteed to get you noticed come party season. Adapt the look from the runway to real life by sculpting hair into a slick top knot, then braiding and interweaving the lengths. Don’t worry about being too precise, this season’s catwalk’s ornate up-dos were all charmingly random.

Channel Agyness Deyn with this modern take on the Eton crop. An asymmetrical fringe can really amp up last season’s crop – as can a flash of peek-a-boo colour. Not for the faint-hearted.

The femme buzzcut is the hottest celebrity trend of the season – model Alice Dellal has been rocking an under-cut for months, but now GLAMOUR.com favourites Rihanna and Amelle Berrabah have got in on the act with semi-shorn styles. Not for the faint-hearted, but seriously cool all the same.

The extreme contrast between long hair and stubble makes the femme buzzcut a style fit for the brave – but it’s also a great way to amp up your current crop. Wear with punk-esque body á la Sarah Harding, like our model.

Give curls an instant update by randomly curling and crimping different sized sections of hair – seriously fun for party season.

Fashion flirty curls into a haphazard up-do (securing with Kirby grips) and add simple, loose braiding down one side for a whimsical twist.

Go retro with rockabilly quiffs and ‘40s-style low twists. The easiest way to recreate this style is to wrap hair around a wide-barrelled curling iron, secure with pins and set with hairspray, before gently sliding the tong out.

Give a bog-standard bob the instant wow factor by adding a sweeping side fringe and va-va-voom volume and texture to the lengths. A little backcombing and a lot of hairspray go a long way come party season!

Make like a Bladerunner with a blunt fringe, choppy edges and a symmetrical finish for a futuristic, edgy twist on the modern crop.

Sweeping peek-a-boo bangs give super-short styles a sultry edge.

Smooth sides back and secure with pins, then go for über-body on top by backcombing and ‘punking’ your shortest layers. The result? A real look-at-me up-do.

This classic rock look creates retro revival with a contemporary twist - taking elements of the '60s and bringing it bang up-to-date for autumn/winter 2009 with a peek-a-boo, full-bodied fringe and rebellious texture.
