Ask Alex: The products that get me through fashion week
Rushing around from show to show, from backstage to front of house may seem glam and fun (and it kind of is tbh) but it also is a horror for skin and makeup.
Coming back from a freezing and windy NYC, I barely had time to set foot in my flat and I was already racing towards my first London show…I love it, wouldn’t change it for the world – but I don’t want it to show in my face.
Luckily I have tried enough beauty products to assemble my ultimate edit of what works to make me look and feel like I had a good night’s sleep (when in reality I haven’t gotten more than 4 hours per night for the past few weeks…):

Velvet Noir Major Volumizing Mascara £22 Marc Jacobs Beauty from John Lewis
I have ZERO time to retouch my makeup when I’m on the go and the toughest bit for me is always migrating mascara and eyeliner (see below)…my friend and mega makeup artist Hung Vanngo got me hooked on these two. The liner does not budge and the mascara delivers the lushest lashes.

Ultra Nourishing Saviour Mask, £40, Gazelli
I can’t rave about this enough – it prevents my skin from literally falling off – it’s a mask, but I leave it on all night and I slather it on thickly when flying. I SWEAR you will have the smoothest, glowiest skin of your life using this balm – perfect for dehydrated, lifeless, dull, dry, stressed, tired faces!
Rosewater Balancing Mist, £18, for 50ml Jurlique
This is my kryptonite. Love it to refresh my skin and makeup – smells like heaven and never ever leaves my bag.
Santal 33 Eau de Parfum, £175 for 100ml, Le Labo at Liberty
The last thing you want when you’re in close proximity with lots of people and squeezed in small warm cramped space is to either a) smell sweaty or b) smell cloying. This fragrance is heaven – never overpowering but distinctive enough to get constantly asked “what are you wearing?’ (in a good way obvs!)
Shea Intensive Hand Balm, £21, L’Occitane
NYC was so cold, my hands went scaly – in comes this rich buttery cream to salvage the whole situation.
Day & Night Anti-Ageing Supplements, £79, Lumity
When I am going through stressy periods, I make sure I take a good supplement to support my skin. It’s always difficult to be able to pinpoint exactly whether a supplement is working or not. All I can say is that I have been taking these for over a month and well, my skin is holding up pretty well.
