Ashish had a message for Trump at LFW yesterday
'Tis the season for politically-charged fashion, but yesterday's Ashish show at London Fashion Week saw it taken to glittery new heights.
A strong message to Donald Trump, the collection was thick with messages of resistance and solidarity with the USA, from motifs of 'keep the faith', 'unify in adversity' and 'never give up'.
Other pieces were aimed at the President more directly: 'more glitter less Twitter', 'love sees no colour' and one jumper, emblazoned with a sequin kitten, said 'pussy grabs back!' It's sure to be a sell out.
There was the obvious - Mexican fighting masks painted on the models' faces - and the subtleties - 'Planned Parenthood' on the male model's check shorts. Look at the collection for a second time and you'd catch things you missed before.
Speaking about his choice of set - a sort of yellow brick road and broken heart backdrop - the Indian-born designer told Vogue: “I was reading about how Oz was representative of Washington and how the hurricane of Dorothy was the political turmoil that happened at the time. It was so symbolic. Every little thing was symbolic of what is happening now—we need to be united in a message of love and unity and stand up together against all the f***ed-up mess that is going on.”
