Amazon Video UK: 8 awesome shows you need to see

Yes, we love Netflix - but Amazon Video UK has a stonking line-up for their Autumn/Winter 2016 viewing. From exciting new shows like Good Girls Revolt, to returning favourites like Transparent, the Amazon Video streaming service is going from strength to strength. Here are GLAMOUR's highlights...
Sony Pictures Entertainment/YoutubeGood Girls Revolt
It’s 1969 and while the rest of the world is embracing free love, mini-skirts and the Pill, the newsroom is still stuck in the Dark Ages. This fab new show follows a group of female researchers trying to make their mark and be treated fairly. It stars Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Erin Darke (Kill Your Darlings) and relative newcomer Genevieve Angelson. Aside from the sixties styling (which we’ll never get enough of) this is an empowering and clever drama based on a real-life landmark sexual discrimination case in America.

The Collection
Delving into the ridiculously chic world of a fashion house in post-war Paris, we really want to raid the costume department of this show. The ensemble cast includes Tom Riley (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Meryl Streep’s daughter, Mamie Gummer. A delicious saga of rivalry, ambition and family feuds, the plot lives up to the haute couture magic.

One Mississippi
Inspired by comedian Tig Notaro’s life - this so called ‘traumedy’ follows Tig as she moves from LA back to her hometown in Mississippi after her mother unexpectedly passes away. It’s a perfectly balanced, bittersweet series addressing grief, family and the nostalgia of your own childhood. Of course, it’s very funny, too - with lines like: “My step father isn’t the warmest guy - he’s somewhere between room temperature and sleet.”

Rex FeaturesTransparent - S3
One of the smartest, darkest, funniest dramas around, we return to the gloriously dysfunctional Pfefferman family and its matriarch Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) for a third season of self-discovery and screwed up relationships. Look out for Caitlyn Jenner who will guest star.

AmazonCrisis In Six Scenes
This six-episode show from Woody Allen is set in 1960s New York, and follows a middle class family and the houseguest who turns their lives upside down. Allen stars - and there’s a guest appearance from Miley Cyrus too. Allen’s films are notoriously hit-or-miss, so we’re reserving judgement on the whole series for now. From the sneak peeks we’ve seen, there’s plenty of his trademark neuroses.

Starring Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt, this drama comes from David E. Kelley, the creator of Ally McBeal. Whereas Ally was a fairly whimsical take on the American legal world, the tone of this drama is far more dark and serious. It follows a hard-on-his-luck lawyer (Thornton) who has to fight the corruption of the justice system to save himself. Hurt co-stars as his former colleague-turned-nemesis. With this holy trinity of talent involved, this should be top-notch drama.

Rex FeaturesThe Man In The High Castle - S2
Adapted from Philip K. Dick's Hugo Award-winning 1962 'alternate history' novel, the show’s premise is: what id the Allied Powers had lost World War II? Germany and Japan control America - but after a series of mysterious films surface depicting a world vastly different from their own (i.e. our world), some begin to question the very nature of their reality… If that sounds up your alley, you can still watch S1.

Rex FeaturesMozart In The Jungle - S3
This was a surprise Golden Globe winner at the start of 2016, so worth catching up with if hitherto you haven’t been watching. Following a New York symphony orchestra, it focusses on a fledgling oboist (Lola Kirke) and her avant garde conductor (Gael Garcia Bernal). If it sounds a little too highbrow to get stuck into, you need to know that the classical music world of the Big Apple are a neurotic, substance-abusing, Machiavellian bunch.
