And I can vouch for her life-changing abilities. Sometime circa 2020, in a quest to elevate my rented flat to new heights (and keep myself motivated with on-repeat episodes of Grace Beverley's Working Hard, Hardly Working), an OG Echo Dot was my first Amazon device purchase. I've been unable to live without it ever since.
Of course, there are two things to note with smart home devices. One: there's forever a new model to get to grips with, and two: they don't come cheap. While I can't really help you with the whole lifespan issue, I can help you with the latter. The cost part.
