These days, winning brands that truly deserve the accolade are ones that stand out in the beauty sphere because they make a difference and go the extra mile to enact real change.
With the spotlight on sustainability, many of us are adopting more mindful ways to shop – which includes seeking out brands that do more than just moisturise the skin or create on-trend makeup. According to Provenance’s Skin Deep Beauty 2022 Report, sustainability is important to 91% of British beauty consumers – of which 83% believe that the industry should be more transparent about the impact of products.
So, from vegan-friendly formulas to refillable containers, these winning brands stand out for their eco-friendly credentials and/or inclusive price points.
In order to filter out the best from the rest, we asked our panel of experts to nominate, then you to vote for your favourite vegan, organic, sustainable, breakthrough, affordable and refillable brands.

Best vegan brand
Elf
More and more beauty brands have gone vegan in recent years. But our winning brand, Elf, has been waving the vegan flag since its launch in 2004. Delivering high-quality cosmetics that are affordable and accessible, Elf (which stands for eyes, lips and face) continues to be a firm favourite among beauty lovers, especially for its bestselling Putty Bronzer and Putty Blush.

Neal’s Yard Remedies
From apothecary to global beauty brand, Neal’s Yard Remedies became Britain’s first health and beauty company to use certified organic ingredients back in 1991. The brand behind our much-loved bath bombs, Lush, began in 1995 with a clear mission of eliminating unnecessary waste and the need for preservatives in the beauty industry by offering fresh, handmade products wrapped up in recycled materials. The Body Shop
Refillable beauty products may not be a catch-all solution, but they certainly help in reducing plastic waste. Winning this category is The Body Shop, which has rolled out refill stations across the country so shoppers can purchase an aluminium bottle that can be filled and refilled with the brand’s standout shower gels, hand washes and haircare. Clever!
