We’ll call this one The X Factor effect: the Brit beauty really found her feet over the course of the show, scoring style hit after hit and wearing those luscious chocolate locks in countless covetable styles.

This year we stopped being blinded by our R-Patz envy and really started to notice how completely and utterly gorgeous Kristen Stewart is. We don’t call her princess shiny locks for nothing. The toughest category by far – with so many fabulous manes to pick from: but Fearne’s brilliant sharp-cut bob has been our stand-out style of the year. We waxed lyrical about our love for this look all summer: she’s made the bob cool again.
The Ultimate Beauty Icon of 2011 – Honourable mention: Blake Lively
The ultimate American beauty: Blake Lively’s been pulling picture-perfect looks out of the bag all year. From blushing light pink cheeks to thick, layered lashes, she looks just as perfect on the streets of LA or New York as she does on the red carpet or onscreen as Serena in Gossip Girl.

Emma Stone really found her style feet this year. We’ve been hooked on her every hair and beauty move: from bright blonde hair and warm golden skin to fiery redhead with crystal-clear skin and cat-flick eyes. We love her best with liquid-liner flicks and a soft pink pout.

We adore celebrities who create experimental beauty looks that actually work. We’ve been storing a year’s worth of Kelly’s hottest make-up looks to play copycat with in the new year. We particularly love the way Kelly plays with colour.

As if you needed to be told: Rihanna’s been the queen of inspirational beauty in 2011. From popping colour to oh-so-natural nudes, she knows when to go all-out with make-up and when to give her skin a rest. We could (and do) spend hours flicking through Ri-Ri’s look book for ideas, and we’re always excited to see a new snap of the Barbadian beauty. Here’s to a beautiful 2012.
