Gone are the days when a bit of nipping and tucking was taboo; today, injectables are a standard part of many of our beauty regimes, no different to acids or serums. As a non-invasive, temporary alternative to surgery, we’re all falling for fillers, but how do you know what’s right for you? How much do you get, how do you choose where to have fillers, and most importantly, how do you avoid the dreaded pillow-face?
If you’re yet to dip your toes into the world of fillers, figuring out where to begin can be a pretty intimidating process. Luckily, we’re here to provide a helping hand. At our Glamour Weekender event, guests got the chance to chat about all things Juvéderm with experienced aesthetics practitioners and even take a sneak peek at what kind of results they could expect with Juvéderm’s visualisers. But no need to worry if you missed the event – we’ve got a crash-course on what you need to know about getting Juvéderm, right here.
What is Juvéderm?
First things first; Juvéderm is a facial filler. It’s an injectable gel for under the skin, and is designed to restore or add volume to certain areas of your face. It’s commonly used to plump lips, smooth lines or wrinkles, and add definition to cheeks and jawlines.
Juvéderm is the world’s leading hyaluronic acid filler. It contains a synthesised hyaluronic acid that binds water in your skin and integrates with your facial tissue rather than sitting on top of it, helping to create natural-looking results.
Though non-permanent, Juvéderm is a relatively long-lasting option. Results last for up to 9-24 months, depending on what type of treatment you get and where; great if you don’t have time to pop in for a refresh every six weeks.

What can Juvéderm do?
The short answer? Almost anything. Allergan – the brains behind Juvéderm – has spent years tailoring its innovative products and technology, so there’s not much the company doesn't know. Broadly speaking, though, Juvéderm treatments fall into two categories: refreshing and enhancing.
Signs of ageing are a natural part of life, and you might not want to get rid of things such as fine laughter-lines; they’re a souvenir of great times, after all. However, you might not view other things – such as your cheeks losing fullness, deep under-eye circles and crow’s feet from late nights spent in front of a computer screen, or lines around your mouth – quite as fondly. When it comes to refreshing your appearance, Juvéderm treatments are ideal as they target specific areas to change only what you want to change and leave the rest untouched.
Fillers can also be used to contour your face, making cheekbones and jawlines more defined without an invasive surgical procedure. Juvéderm uses a slightly different formula for every treatment depending on the area, meaning each injectable is tailored to your specific needs. Just like how you wouldn’t use heavy concealer as an all-over foundation, your Juvéderm practitioner won’t use the same filler to smooth fine lines as they would to shape your features. Juvéderm Volux is their latest creation and is specifically designed for use on the lower face; so, if you’re interested in making a small chin more prominent, enhancing your jawline, or firming and replacing lost volume, Volux makes a great option.
How will I know what’s right for my face?
That’s where your clinician comes in. All treatments should be carried out by a qualified medical aesthetics practitioner, who should take you through an extensive consultation process to design the right treatment plan for you. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all scenario; no two faces are exactly the same, and so it makes sense that no two Juvéderm treatments are either. Rather than try to mimic the look of a supermodel or a celebrity, your aesthetics practitioner will help you work with and enhance your own natural beauty. Chatting through your goals with an expert gives you the chance to discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and put in place the steps you need to get there.
What happens when I get Juvéderm?
Put aside any fears of spending weeks after your treatment with your face wrapped in bandages; Juvéderm can be as quick and easy as getting your eyebrows done. It’s also relatively pain-free, as you’ll get a local anaesthetic to numb the site of the filler. Once you’ve had your consultation and decided on a treatment, the actual appointment takes between 30 minutes and an hour, and most people can continue their day-to-day routine immediately after.
Prepare for a plumper pout in seconds.

Will I look like I’ve had filler?
The best tweaks are those that people don’t notice; rather than being able to point to any specific change in your face, you may simply look brighter, more well-rested, and more energised after your filler. If your goal is natural-looking results, Juvéderm is a good choice for you. As the filler blends with your facial tissue, it gives a plump, refreshed and, most importantly, natural look. During your consultation, your practitioner will carefully study your face both static and in motion to make sure you’ll be able to laugh, smile, and frown as usual after treatment – no frozen faces here.
