These YSL lipsticks give you the juiciest satin finish that you need to see for yourself

Can we make lipsticks fetch again?
These YSL lipsticks give you the juiciest satin finish… can you not tell

YSL lipsticks, which come wrapped in that beautifully golden packaging with that iconic black embossing, define the word ‘chic’. The brand has launched lipsticks in many different formulations but one thing remains consistent: the quality, and their timeless elegance. This launch comes in the form of the Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks, £35, which provide a luxurious blend of sophistication and hardworking formulation.

Their enhanced formula contains a fusion of the essence of tuberose and prickly pear flower extracts sourced from ourika community gardens, along with the nourishing benefits of ceramides. The texture is creamy, so that it can glide across the lips effortlessly and the finish is satin like, leaving lips feeling as soft as they look.

These lipsticks sound dreamy as they're designed to pamper your lips while delivering epic, rich colour deposit so we've put them to the test. Here, five GLAMOUR staffers share their truest and most honest thoughts.

Shade: Rouge Muse (RM)

I'm not big on lipsticks, I'm very much team gloss or team lip balm, so it would take a lot to convert me. I think that if I'm going to wear lipstick, it would have to be a juicy red hue, hence why I opted to try this new YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Rouge Muse of course.

I'm automatically sold on the packaging; the gold and black casing is beautifully elegant and pretty timeless. The formula glides effortlessly from end to end on the lips, and although I needed a few swipes to really get the full colour deposit, I was okay with that. It made it more universal as it could go from a quiet sheer finish that is buildable to a max power colour. As promised the finish is givin' satin cushion, simply divine to gaze at, and it feels as plush on the lips as it looks. Although I'm not a full lipstick convert, as far as lipsticks with satin finishes go, YSL is definitely onto something here.

Shade: Nu Muse (NU)

Full disclosure: the first YSL lipstick I ever tried I fell in love with, converting me from a humble petroleum jelly kind of girl to a legitimate lipstick lover – something I never thought I'd say. I'm particularly fussy when it comes to lip products and won't tolerate anything even remotely drying, which is exactly why I love YSL's lipsticks. They have high colour pay off, feel comfortable on and come in shade options that are great for daily use.

The Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in Nu Muse is no exception to this, applying like a dream and giving a gorgeous peachy nude colour. I can only describe it as pure velvety perfection, with it being an easy lipstick to use day-to-day because of its warm overall effect. Better still, it has a blissfully light, floral scent that makes application a real treat. I'll definitely be keeping this close by.

Shade: Pink Muse (PM)

I'll be straight: I'm not usually a bold lip kind of girl – and although this particular shade of YSL lipstick still hasn't pulled me too far away from my go-to peachy pink – the formula is absolutely epic. So creamy, so pigmented and with the most beautiful sheen. I also loved mattifying it slightly, by dabbing a tissue between my lips post-application and wearing the product as a stain. I'll be waxing lyrical about the staying power for a long, long time. In short: if you're reserved with your lip colour choices like me, I'd implore you to give another shade in the range a go – and if a bright, mood-boosting fuchsia hue is your bag, *race* to the checkout for this one.

Shade: Subversive Ruby (R5)

I'm the biggest lipstick stan, especially when it comes to classic bullet lipsticks with a satin finish. Naturally, when I got my hands on the new YSL Rouge Pur Couture formula, I was beyond excited. First of all, I couldn't get over the luxe golden packaging (and let's be real, when it comes to YSL, I expect nothing less). But the star of the show is definitely the creamy formula that glides on like butter and delivers seriously impressive pigment on the first swipe. I opted for the classic red shade, and frankly, it easily made it to my favourite red lipstick stash, thanks to the perfectly balanced red shade that's not too cool or warm-toned. A must for the festive season.

Shade: Tribute Nude (N5)

Hmmm to be honest, I’m just not in my creamy lipstick era. I liked this more than I thought I would, but probably not enough to be converted. That said, the texture was beautifully creamy, it glides on well and it was easy enough to apply precisely. However, it shifts around a little more than mattes so you have to be careful not to budge it. I loved the shade (N5 Tribute Nude) a pink with a hint of purple, which I probably would never have gone for based on the shade chart. It definitely left my lips looking full and fresh, I just can’t be swayed from the sheerer glosses and balms that I’m loving right now.
