Is there going to be a season 6 of Yellowstone? That's the question we can't help but ask ourselves following the dramatic conclusion of Yellowstone's fifth season this week. The intense two-hour finale sees the Dutton ranch finally being sold to the Broken Rock Reservation, with Kayce deeming this the only way to save his family and escape his father's legacy.
As the credits roll, we get a glimpse of Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Beth's (Kelly Reilly) new life as a voiceover from 1883's Elsa Dutton plays over, with her character saying, “One-hundred-and-forty years ago, my father was told of this valley and here’s where we stayed, for seven generations. My father was told they would come for this land, and he promised to return it. Nowhere was that promise written. It faded with my father’s death but somehow lived in the spirit of this place.”
It certainly feels as though there's more of a story to be told, so is there going to be a Yellowstone season 6? Here's what we know about a potential next series.
Is there going to be a Yellowstone season 6?
Eagle-eyed fans noted that the fifth Yellowstone season was promoted as a “season finale” rather than a “series finale”, with rumours subsequently swirling that we'd be seeing more of Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser).
However, it's worth bearing in mind that Kelly Reilly appears to have very much closed the book on that chapter, with the actor taking to Instagram to post a reel of her time on the show, accompanied by the caption, “Whatever the future holds this is the ending of the show we have been making for the past 7 years.”
While we're willing to unashamedly read into the “whatever the future holds” part, this does feel like something of a farewell post from the actor, with her continuing "Thank you Taylor.
Thank you the audience we made it for, for being on this journey with us. We really cared about making something special for you all."
Luke Grimes also took to Instagram to post his own farewell to the show, posting a picture with the caption “End of an era. Goodbye Kayce. You are a better man than I. To my yellowstone family, thank you for the experience of a lifetime.”
We're not crying, you are.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter Hauser made clear that he thought Taylor Sheridan could deliver another season if he wanted to, saying “Taylor can figure out how to absolutely continue if he wants to. But that’s just Taylor being a brilliant writer. I’m not telling you that it is continuing, it’s just that he’s smart enough as a writer to do that if that’s something that he is passionate about.”
Where do we sign the petition to get this thing off the ground please?
What we know about Yellowstone's spin-offs
Ok, so we may not have confirmation of Yellowstone season 6, but the good news is that a recent report from Deadline noted that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will star in a spin-off series based at their new ranch which they relocated to at the conclusion of Yellowstone.
Likewise, we also have The Madison to look forward to, another Yellowstone spin-off set to star Michelle Pfeffier and Matthew Fox which grapples with “themes of grief and human connection”.
According to Deadline, Fox plays “a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors” while Michelle Pfeiffer takes on the role of Stacy Clyburn, a mother who relocates her family from New York to the Madison River valley in central Montana.
So in a way the Yellowstone goodness isn't over just yet. Phew.
It's an extremely epic, blood-stained finale.
