Whether it’s summer or winter, we always want to know what clothing trends are in — especially when it comes to dresses. They are and continue to be one of our favourite no-brainers for quick and effective styling. After all, they create an instant look.
But what if you want something as easy to style as a winter dress… without actually wearing one? When it’s cold outside, sometimes you need alternatives. Luckily, there are several clothing trends for this winter 2024 that provide the perfect solution. They can be styled just as easily and look just as chic — but you’ll be a helluva lot warmer.
Read on for the biggest fashion trends for winter 2024 — as well as a few you might want to skip out on buying this year.
Matching sets that come as a top with a skirt or trousers — a.k.a., co-ords — were a big trend all summer and will continue to be so in autumn and winter. During the warmer months, the focus was on light, flowing fabrics and colourful prints – but for winter, we're getting cosy.
Look for knitted pieces in neutral colours like cream, grey and beige. Patterned sets are less on trend, so they’ll be harder to find this season.
The business-casual trend continues to have us in its grip in and outside the office – and the miniskirt version is still the most popular. To stay warm during the colder months, pair yours with thermal tights or knee-high boots, under which you can hide extra-high wool socks. It also helps to be nice and cosy on top, so layer your favourite sweater under the blazer.
This season, it’s all about a classic boot that’s also much warmer.

By the way, party girls are getting their money’s worth on this trend. More and more shiny sets are hitting stores, with metallic bouclé in particular on the rise. What we’re seeing less of these days? Jumpsuits.
In: wool trouser suits. Out: linen suits
Of course, the most classic dress alternative of all shouldn’t be missing from this list: trouser suits. While we should have long since stowed away the summer version — that is, the linen set — until next year, wool suits seem to have a revival every year as the temperatures drop. And no wonder, considering how useful that extra dose of warmth is.
