Virgin Island is back. And while we're absolutely tuned in to watch the participants' surprisingly wholesome journeys towards physical intimacy, as the camera pans over their sun-drenched home for the duration of the experiment, our minds can't help but wander towards summer holiday planning. “Where is Virgin Island filmed?” we think to ourselves. “And how do I get there?”

One solution: sign up for the show yourself. But it's not for the faint-hearted. Launching last year, the reality series from Channel 4 was met with mixed feelings and reviews when it first premiered. The concept? Virgin Island follows 12 participants on a two-week “radical retreat”, led by sexologists Danielle Harel and Celeste Hirschman, plus a team of experts. The not-so-secret twist is that all 12 participants are virgins who, over the course of the experiment, will tackle their hang-ups around intimacy and emotional vulnerability via a series of workshops.

Sounds salacious, but the show is actually kind of sweet – a taboo-free zone where stigmas around sex are broken down. That said, Virgin Island hasn't arrived without controversy. When the series first launched last year, some viewers questioned the concept's ethics and blurred boundaries, particularly after one therapist appeared to flirt with a contestant in sessions.

But back to Virgin Island's stunning filming location, an idyllic Mediterranean island that immediately had us planning our next getaway. Want to join us? Here's everything you need to know.

Where is Virgin Island filmed?

Spoiler: it’s not the Caribbean. Virgin Island was actually filmed on Obonjan, a private, uninhabited island just off the coast of Croatia. The cast stayed at the stylish Obonjan Island Resort, a four-star retreat that only opens during the summer season (8th July to 4th September). Offering a Mediterranean-meets-glamping vibe, accommodation options range from minimalist Island Homes (suitable for up to four guests) to luxe Glamping Lodges and classic O-Tents for couples or trios. Stays start from around €115 (£97) per night – not bad for a literal private island.

As for the island itself, Obonjan isn’t just about lazing on a lounger with a cocktail in hand (though there are plenty of bars and sunset DJs for that). Part of the Šibenik Archipelago in Croatia’s Dalmatian region, the island is a truly distinctive escape, spanning just 136 acres. It’s completely car-free and uninhabited, meaning there are no permanent residents, creating an uninterrupted sense of seclusion for travellers. Total bliss.

As for the resort itself, every detail has been designed to offer guests a 360-degree recharge, with daily yoga sessions, massage treatments and fitness classes, plus a calendar of island experiences such as stargazing, open-air cinema nights and even pub quizzes. Want something a little more active? Dive into the resort's water sports options, get your laps in at the seawater pool and explore the tucked-away beaches at your own pace.

And good news: your dog is invited too. Obonjan Island Resort is fully pet-friendly, meaning your pups can enjoy this private island paradise too. It’s not your average getaway — and that’s exactly the point.
