What to wear to a winter wedding, you ask? Winter weddings are undeniably romantic, but sure pose a slightly practical problem when it comes to figuring out the best wedding guest dress. After all, wedding guest dressing can prove a head-scratcher even in the height of summer, let alone when the mercury dips into unfavourable temps.
How does one look party-ready while staying warm enough for all the outdoor festivities? And how might one style a look for a winter wedding guest differently from, say, a Christmas party dress? Are sequins a yes or a no? What's the best jacket to wear atop your winter wedding guest dress?
Don't worry, we have you covered. Beyond our handy list of the best winter wedding guest dresses you can peruse, we've also curated seven winter wedding outfit formulas to help you stay chic (and warm) while you watch your close ones say “I do.” Here's what to wear to a winter wedding this season.

1. Go Tonal
Even the cosiest ensemble can look elevated if you choose one elegant hue and stick to it. For winter, there's no more sophisticated a colour than oxblood. It's a colour that floods the autumn/winter runways of brands like Tom Ford and Saint Laurent every season and for good reason. Basically a winter neutral, the luxurious wine hue also lends itself well to evening attire.
Go top to toe in sexy burgundy, starting with a knit and matching skirt, and commit fully with pointed oxblood pumps and clutch. The trick here is to accessorise properly to help the outfit look more wedding, less office. Opt for a dramatic faux fur coat in the same hue and delicate gold belt for a touch of glamour.
2. Layered Sequins
Your beloved sequin dress you wore for a summer party? Don't put them away just yet. With just some clever layering, you can give it a second life at the next winter wedding. All it takes is a thin turtleneck jumper in a similar colour to give the illusion that the dress and knit form a one-piece.
It can be tempting to opt for a black knit but tone-on-tone styling will add depth and elegance. Don't believe us? Give it a go, and be sure to pair the look with minimalist leather goods (the sequin should do the sparkling) and some bold, architectural jewellery.
3. Velvet Suit
A womens' trouser suit, while formal, can feel more office than party, but a velvet suit? Why, that's a different story altogether. Slick, cosy and oh-so-chic, if you don't already own a velvet suit then we highly suggest you invest in one. In jewel tones like emerald green or lush copper, the suit could look snazzier than any statement dress you could find.
Burberry's midnight blue, crushed velvet suit that went down the A/W 2025 runway still lives rent-free in our minds. To brighten up the look, we love a pop of white, be it with some loafers or a small clutch bag.
4. Co-Ord Chic
Co-ords are the stylish set's go-to for looking put-together in the summer and it still applies in the winter. An easy set with architectural shapes immediately makes the outfit look artistic and intentional. Add on some gloves in a contrasting hue and you've got yourself a sartorially interesting look (and toasty fingertips!).
We love unusual colour combos like baby blue and burgundy, pink and red or brown and orange. Roksanda and Dries van Noten are masters of colour clashing should you need more inspiration.
5. Statement Skirt
For those of us who run cold and will likely spend the entire evening with the jacket on, all you'll really need is a dramatic skirt to do the sartorial talking. A dramatic, ruffled skirt is not only fun to wear but also provides your legs plenty of coverage (you're welcome). This means, however, that you'll want something skinnier on top to balance out the proportions. A cropped suede jacket over a skin-tight turtleneck will do the trick. Go full boho-chic and lean into the warm tones with a matching suede bag and transparent sunnies just for the vibes.
Pairing boho blouses with flared jeans is a nod to '70s style that remains timeless through the seasons.

6. Dark Florals
A winter wedding is the perfect excuse to get into some wicked-good dark florals dresses. Zimmermann sent several fabulous fairy dresses flitting down the autumn/winter 2025 runway paired with cargo jackets for that touch of masculine edge that you could easily recreate for a wedding set in the chilly countryside. The great news is the jacket can come off when it's time to dance and be styled with jeans for a stroll through the woods the next afternoon. Just be sure to add some sparkle to the look through some gold heels and jewellery (maybe even in a floral motif to reflect the 'fit!).
7. All Black Chic
While an all-black 'fit might discouraged for a summer wedding, there's a case to be made for it in the winter. It's a comforting look when the days are short, but this is for a celebratory occasion after all, so if you do opt for the inky hue, try to brighten it all up with interesting textures and accessories. A fringe skirt, for example, feels festive and flirty (and dance floor-ready), while some jazzy accessories from a pearl belt à la Coco Chanel would be a welcome dose of sparkle. In fact, don't be afraid to over-accessorise; with black as your base, you can get away with just about any amount of jewellery so go big or go home.
