Severance fans are about to get the biggest January treat ever – a brand new season of the Apple TV+ drama.
The series, directed and executive produced by Hollywood star Ben Stiller, has won a bucket load of awards with its unique look at our relationship with work and how it affects the rest of our lives.
Here's everything we know about Severance season 2, including what time it drops on Apple TV+.

What is Severance about?
The show's synopsis reads as follows: “Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.”
In terms of what we know about season 2, we know that protagonist Mark and his co-workers grapple with the aftermath of “trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe”, according to the plot description for the new chapter. Many characters have discovered shocking truths about the “other” elements of their lives, such as Mark discovering his presumed-dead wife is actually Ms Casey (Dichen Lachman) and Helly's discovery of who her parents really are and Irving's odd haunting memories of a passageway, which we're sure will be explored in season 2.
Ben Stiller has spoken about the joy of watching fans react to the events of season 1, and his hopes for combining the Innie (those who exist in the work world) and Outie “real” world.
"When [season 1] came out, it was fun to look at all of the reactions and how people would kind of dig into theories," he told Vanity Fair. "We wanted to pick up the story where it left off. We're bringing the Innies to the Outie world and then will answer some questions by the end of the season. Hopefully we keep it enough of a mystery and intriguing enough that people want to keep following the story."
We will also see the Innies discover more and more about themselves, with writer and creator Dan Erickson describing them reaching an “adolescence” phase in season 2.
“In season one, the Innies are basically children,” he told Vanity Fair. “They’re adults in some ways, but experientially they’re children, having your first crush and finding out things about yourselves. Season two, it’s a little bit more of an adolescence story. There’s more of a sense of finding your own autonomy and deciding who you are going to be, as opposed to who you’ve been told you are.”
Severance season 2 cast
Alongside Adam Scott, returning cast for Severance season 2 includes Patricia Arquette, Dichen Lachman, Michael Chernus, Christopher Walken and Jen Tullock.
New faces that have been confirmed to be joining for season 2 are Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie, Bob Balaban, Merritt Wever, Ólafur Darri Ólafssonn, John Noble and Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat.
Severance season 2 release info
The first episode of the new season will drop at midnight Pacific Time on 17 January 2025, meaning it'll be available to watch from 8am UK time on Apple TV+. Each episode will drop every Friday weekly.
Will there be a Severance season 3?
Director and executive producer Ben Stiller has already teased a third outing for Severance.
“You have a responsibility to the audience that you’re going somewhere with it," he said in an interview with Collider. "That’s always been a part of it for us, really understanding where it’s heading to, and Apple’s been really supportive of that and been sensitive to what the story is and not saying, ‘Okay, this is something that has to keep going as long as it’s successful.’
"It should go as long as the story goes, and that’s something we have an idea of, and we’re working towards as we’re starting up our season 3 work.”
