Normal People and Where The Crawdads Sing star Daisy Edgar-Jones' next movie is looking like a must-watch. Especially if you're into action thrillers.
She will star in Twisters, a sequel to a classic 1996 title of the same name which explored the story of a professor who took a group of students on an expedition, studying one of the most powerful and dangerous storms in decades.
Rumours have swirled that the sequel will explore the story surrounding the family of the original characters, but Universal has insisted that it will be a “new chapter” in the franchise.
I don't think you're ready…

Twisters is coming to UK cinemas this summer and the first trailer has just dropped. Here's everything we know so far…
Who is in the Twisters cast?
Joining Daisy Edgar-Jones is an amazing cast, including Glen Powell (Anyone But You), Anthony Ramos (In The Heights), Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Daryl McCormack, Sasha Lane and Katy O'Brian.
What is Twisters about?
It has been described as a natural disaster movie, as well as “a sequel to the 1996 film about stormchasing scientists studying tornados.”
The official plot synopsis for Twisters reads: "Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.
"She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Anthony Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), the charming and reckless social media superstar who thrives on posting his stormchasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better.
“As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.”
What have the cast said about Twisters?
While Daisy promised “loads of nods to the original”, she added in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the 2024 rendition of Twisters "really feels like a new chapter in a really brilliant way. There's new technology, there's new ways to understand these crazy weather systems and tornadoes — so we're bringing it up to date with what the state of the world is now."
She adds that her character Kate has an “incredible arc. I love her fierceness and her depth.”
The film's screenwriter Mark L Smith has also confirmed that climate change will play a huge part in the story. “I talked to so many storm experts, tornado experts, storm chasers, and rode around with some,” he said in an interview. "Even the tornado season itself, because of climate change, what used to be tornado alley going through a certain stretch.

"It now extends so much further east, and it's moving across, and the dates are wider, and the numbers are higher, and the storms themselves are more violent. So we did use elements of that just to shine a light on it, as well, the causes and effects of climate change."
In an interview with Vogue, Glen Powell added that the movie will stand alone from the original.
“We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one,” he said. “It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern day.”
He continued: “I don’t think anyone has brought up this movie in forever, but talking to people, they’re like, ‘That was one of my favourite movies growing up. That movie terrified me.’"
When is Twisters out in cinemas?
It's set for release in UK cinemas on 19 July.
