In the market for a spine-tingling, tension-building cop drama? Hopefully, Trigger Point is on your radar. From the brain of Line of Duty boss Jed Mercurio and fronted by Vicky McClure, the last two seasons of the ITV drama has followed the twists and turns of life as a bomb disposal operative.
So is Trigger Point returning for a third season? Well, fans have already tweeted that their fingers are crossed and requesting it ASAP “please and thank you”.
And the show's star Vicky McClure has been very vocal about her love for the show, also. She told What to Watch: “I love the show. I love everybody that works on it. I think it's ambitious. I think it's great escapism.” She added in an interview with The Mirror that it would be “brilliant” to do another season.
“I don't think you can predict whether shows will be long-running, all you can do is do the best possible job with each season and hope it connects with the audience,” she said. "If we're fortunate enough that season two is viewed with the same enthusiasm as season one then it would be brilliant if we could do season three, but we're not thinking about that yet.
“We'd love season two to be a hit and to have opportunities to do other seasons, but no one's counting their chickens.”
What would Trigger Point season 3 be about?
Seeing as we saw season two's criminal gang The Wave defeated, we would likely see a resurgence of a new enemy for Lana to defeat, while she fights her personal demons at the same time no doubt.
Who would be in Trigger Point season 3?
We would safely assume that Vicky McClure would return as lead Lana Washington, especially as she's now an executive producer.
Obviously no promises can be made, but Nabil Elouhabi, Kerry Godliman and Eric Shango could very well return as Lana's colleagues Hass, Sonya and Danny, as well as Kevin Eldon and Tamzin Griffin, who play Lana's parents.
When can we expect a Trigger Point season 3?
Seeing as there was a gap of two years between seasons 1 and 2, we could predict that there will be a third season by January 2026 – but nothing is guaranteed. Under fan demand, it could be quicker, or Vicky and Jed may get distracted by other projects.
