Sneakers are named the nation’s favourite footwear

Style over comfort, isn't that what some people say? Well, not anymore! Ebay has revealed that Brits voted trainers their number one footwear of choice - so the sneaker trend isn't going anywhere.

And what's more - Rihanna has been voted the number one 'sneaker icon of 2014'.

The sports shoe might have started in 1892, but now kicks are the most aspirational and versatile footwear choice, favoured by the likes of Rihanna, Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora, with 2014 even being hailed as the 'year of the sneaker'.

Back in September, Cara Delevingne rocked up to the Burberry show wearing a pair of 70s-style Burberry trainers, and the models on the catwalk stormed down the runway wearing the cook kicks, too.

And although trainers didn't feature in Alexander Wang's SS15 show, he did say that his collection was inspired by sneakers, and that almost every look was inspired by a particular style of trainer. Perhaps this was the Adidas Stan Smith look...

According to ebay's survey, just over 1/3 of Brits prefer Burberry's sneaker designs, with Chanel being a close second when shopping for luxury trainers.

Celebs have also dabbled with designing their own trainers, from Kanye's kicks, to Rita Ora collaborating with adidas to develop their own Originals collections, with ebay seeing an increase in listings of +88.4% for the 1970s cult classic.

However ebay reports that Nike Air Jordan are still the world's most famous, proving their longstanding popularity, with listings jumping by an impressive 128.5%+ in the past month alone.
