TikTokker Sidney Raz has gone viral with his hilarious and downright genius TikTok life hack videos, which contain tips and crazy reveals. Each video begins with the line “here’s something I wish I knew before I was in my 30s”.
Turning 30 is a huge milestone for so many of us. While we might be bucking expectations of society for this age – marriage, motherhood and having the perfect career path laid out already – there are definitely a certain amount of life lessons we assume we’ve learnt by the time we approach our fourth decade.
Here are the best TikTok lessons dear Sidney has taught us so far – you won't BELIEVE you didn't already know some of them!
Quick and easy makeup = our kind of vibe.

How to light multi-wick candles
Who else has been trying to light every individual candle in a multi-wick situation? Turns out we've been risking burning out thumbs and hands for no reason.
Sidney demonstrates what happens if you light one wick and then manoeuvre the candle around, leaning the flame towards the other unlit wicks until all are lit.
Approach this method with caution, but the proof is in the very successful TikTok video.

How to wear a travel pillow correctly
Turns out we've been wearing the U-shape travel pillows wrong. According to Sidney, it's best that we flip it, so that the curve goes around the front of her face and neck.
“I'm so comfy,” he says, and we must say his head and neck look way more secure than when we've worn the pillow the other way for numerous train and plane journeys.
It's never too late to learn a life hack, we guess!

How to put candles out
In a habit that probably harks back to the birthday cake wishes of our childhood, we assume that the correct way to put candles out is by blowing them.
But did you know that an alternative was there all along? Sidney demonstrates the magic of putting a lid back onto the candle, cutting the oxygen access off and putting the flame out instantly.
One user warned not to use wooden lids – fire hazard and all – but otherwise you should be good to go.

What the numbers on a toaster actually mean
Hold on to your hats. Sidney revealed that each number on a toaster signifies the amount of minutes it will be toasted for. Mind blown.
Anyone else think it was “levels of toastiness”, like one mind-blown commenter? Us too.

How to tell how ripe an avocado is
We are massive fans of the avo, but working out when one is past its best days generally involves giving it a squeeze and cutting it open and hoping for the best.
Did you know there are peep holes you can check? If you pull off the stem at the top, there's a little hole where you can see inside the avocado, and how green it is!

When to apply deodorant
This one really got us. Daily life as a modern human has led us to believe that one puts on deodorant after showering, generally in the morning.
Sidney googled it, though. And guess what? The best time to apply is AT NIGHT.
This is because it gives more time for the anti-perspirant to soak into your skin, which is best done in the evening when your body temperature is lower and you sweat less, so your sweat glands can absorb it. Well that's us told.

How to fill an ice tray
We're the most ashamed about not already knowing about this one. Because honestly who hasn't slopped water everywhere walking from the tap to the freezer?
It makes all the sense in the world, and we just didn't realise. If you fill the tray holding it at an angle, it won't be able to fill as high, and therefore will stay at an acceptable level for you to dash to the freezer. Any excess water will run off and into the sink. GENIUS.
