There's no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there's nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or snazzy pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don't *actually* work.

Enter: GLAMOUR Tries, the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.

Yep, we've been busy trying out all of the wacky and wonderful beauty crazes to take the internet (read: TikTok) by storm – from the YSL lipstick printer to Il Makiage's iconic foundation and even the viral Hair Bedazzler tool from Amazon. These are the products every influencer/Gen-Z beauty sleuth/beauty editor is talking about on the internet – but that you want to be sure about before parting with your money.

Thanks to GLAMOUR Tries, you won't need to waste your hard-earned pennies on testing these innovations yourself. We're getting in their first, giving you the lowdown and ensuring you invest in products that genuinely work.

And this week, our very own Commerce Editor Sophie Cockett is trying out the viral contouring technique that involves mapping out your face based on a TikTok filter. All you need to do is select the face shape that you feel like suits you most and the filter will then map out your face, suggesting the best placement for your concealer and contour products. Once you've done that, simply blend it out and voilà – your contour has now been tailored specifically to your face shape. Sounds simple enough, right?

To try out the method, Sophie is using the Huda Beauty Faux Filter Skin Finish Foundation Stick as contour as well as the Vieve Modern Radiance Concealer. First, she's trying out outlines of different face shapes to help her decide on one that fits her best. After picking between two oval shapes, she's picked the more narrow version for this look. “I feel like this more longer oval shape could be me,” she comments.

She then proceeds to map out her face with contour and concealer based on the guiding outline that the filter recommended, covering cheeks, jawline, chin, under-eyes, forehead and sides of the nose. Next, she buffs everything out to ensure the products are nicely blended, using a dense foundation brush.

“So this is the finished look,” she says, after which she points out that she never usually applies contour on the sides of her nose and on her chin, but after having tried the technique, she's saying that she is “going to start doing” now. Overall, she concludes that it was a “definitely a fun filter to use."
