One way you rarely feel in Soho is “at home”. It's vibrant, exciting, often overstimulating. So it takes some really clever work to create a soothing and authentic atmosphere in a Soho hotel, without all the trappings of the surrounding bars, theatres and restaurants interrupting proceedings. And yet, The Resident has somehow done it.
Glamour's visit for London Fashion Week gave the team everything we needed for a reprieve from the demands of the outside world. It's no-fuss, modern approach and promotion of friendly community-driven attitudes set the stay apart from other hotels in Soho.
When it comes to attention to detail, The Resident has the necessary finesse down to a fine art. We adored the GHD hair appliances on hand to aid quick preparations for Fashion Week events and the Molton Brown products to help unwind after a long day of catwalks and couture, while stylish Paul Smith Anglepoise lamps gave the room a warm, relaxed ambience.
What defined the stay, though, was the sense of welcome, community and conversation that was encouraged by all staff at the hotel. We were told at check in that there would be complimentary drinks each evening of our stay in the lobby area of the hotel to make space for friendships to be made amongst guests (something that is not often even considered, let alone encouraged), any questions for the staff to be answered and any recommendations for enjoying London to the fullest can be shared.
Recommending the very best that the surrounding area of the hotel has to offer is a huge part of The Resident's shtick. The hotel even boasts a group of Insiders on staff who you can hit up for the best bar, exhibition, walk around town. Something very useful when you're overwhelmed by what Soho has to offer.
When you're in town for a limited amount of time, you really do want to make every second count. It feels super personal to chew the fat over Soho's most underrated taco eateries with someone as passionate about it, knowing that your recommendations are coming from someone who knows their stuff.
Adding to the homely vibes, guests can also pre-order groceries ahead of their arrival, which staff will put away so your treats and must-haves are waiting for you when you check in. It's worth noting, though, that there isn't a huge breakfast offering from The Resident. You can pre-order a continental breakfast to be delivered to the room (for an additional charge), or opt for DIY if that's your style, as all rooms have a mini kitchen equipped with mini fridge, cutlery, crockery and a microwave.
The Resident hotels aren't limited to London visitors, also. While there are locations in the capital in Soho, Victoria, Covent Garden and Kensington, the hotel brand has also opened up its doors in Liverpool and Edinburgh.
