Anyone else obsessed with Netflix's thriller TV series The Diplomat? Season two dropped last week and it is really quite addictive.
The popular series tells the story of Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) the US ambassador to the UK, as she helps to deal with an international crisis, as well as managing her failing marriage to fellow diplomat Hal Wyler (Scoop's Rufus Sewell).
Particularly for those who have already blown through all available episodes, we want to know: is there going to be a season 3? In a word, yes, and we're super excited.

When was The Diplomat season 3 renewed?
Netflix confirmed that The Diplomat season 3 was coming before season 2 even aired. We also know that production has started in both London and New York.
The Diplomat series creator Debora Cahn shared her excitement about this with Variety: "After an amazing summer shooting in the UK, we brought London home to NY. Best of both worlds — filming in Brooklyn. We love doing this. We’re so excited to get to keep going,” she said.
In an interview with TVLine she also explained her decision to cut the number of episodes in season 2: “It was my decision [to trim the episodes. Netflix] was not happy,” she said. "They wanted the full eight...I was really tired. It was a time thing. It felt like there wasn’t enough time to turn around eight of them. It was a lot to do in what appeared to be a short period of time."
We're so glad she put some story aside, because now we get a whole new season out of it.
What happened in The Diplomat season 2?
Basically, sh*t got seriously real. The plot description for the second season reads as follows:
"A deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world. Struggling to rebuild the lives that broke and the team that split apart, Kate’s worst fears unfold. The attack that brought her to the UK didn’t come from a rival nation, it came from inside the British government.
"As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), very much alive, and very much involved. She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney)."
What would The Diplomat season 3 plot be?
According to Debora herself, this could be the most dramatic season yet for protagonist Kate. We don't know a lot, admittedly, but we know that she's going to be facing A LOT.
“Season 3 flips the chessboard," she told Netflix's TUDUM. "In season 3, Kate lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want."
What does she get? And why is it a nightmare? We can't wait to find out.
The Diplomat season 3 cast
While a cast list for The Diplomat season 3 hasn't been confirmed yet, we are expecting a return from all our faves, including – of course – Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, Rufus Sewell as Kate’s husband Hal Wyler, Allison Janney, Rory Kinnear, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn and Ato Essandoh. Perhaps we'll even get a few spicy new faces added into the mix, we'll just have to wait and see.
Is there a The Diplomat season 3 release date yet?
No release date has yet been confirmed for The Diplomat season 3, but due to the quick movement into production for season 3 we're hopeful that we might get it in mid to late 2025. We'll keep you posted!
