The Day of the Jackal's first season has come to an insanely dramatic conclusion, with the show's finale airing on 12 December. And though we're perhaps getting a little ahead of ourselves, with the end of season 1 finally upon us, we can't help but find ourselves wondering: when can we expect The Day of the Jackal season 2 to arrive on our screens?
A reimagining of the 1973 film starring Edward Fox, The Day of the Jackal sees Eddie Redmayne take on the role of internationally renowned assassin ‘The Jackal’ who shape shifts using countless aliases and disguises in a bid to escape the pursuit of MI6 agent Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch) as she chases him through Europe.
Needless to say, the 10 episode season made for some incredibly tense watching. So when will we be getting The Day of the Jackal season 2 and what do we know about it so far?
We did not see that plot flipping twist coming.

Has The Day of the Jackal season 2 been confirmed?
Yes! The TV series proved a hit with audiences, with its first episode reaching 4.5 million viewers, cementing its place as the biggest new series to ever launch on Sky.
With that in mind, unsurprisingly Sky have confirmed that the series will return for The Day of the Jackal season 2.
The Day of the Jackal season 2 release date speculation
Given that the second season was only just confirmed in November, we've got a good while to wait until we get a The Day of the Jackal season 2 release date.
That said, production on the show's first season took roughly seven months, followed by a 12-month pause between the conclusion of filming and the launch of the season.
So if The Day of the Jackal season 2 were to follow a similar schedule, we're likely looking at a just under 2 year wait depending on when filming commences. We'll keep our fingers crossed for a 2026 release date, though ultimately it remains to be seen!
The Day of the Jackal season 2 cast
If you've read The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth or have seen the original 1973 film adaptation, you'll know that the conclusion of The Day of the Jackal series deviated from the original. With that in mind, we feel fairly confident in saying that it's unlikely we'll see Lashana Lynch's Bianca back for The Day of the Jackal season 2. Or Vincent Pyn (Nick Blood) for that matter.
We would, however, expect Eddie Redmayne to reprise his role of The Jackal, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
Likewise, among others, we'd expect to see the following cast members return for a potential second season:
- Eleanor Matsuura as Zina Jansone
- Chukwudi Iwuji as Osita Halcrow
- Úrsula Corberó as Nuria
- Charles Dance as Timothy Winthorp
- Lia Williams as Isabel Kirby
- Khalid Abdalla as Ulle Dag Charles
- Sule Rimi as Paul Pullman
- Florisa Kamara as Jasmine Pullman
The Day of the Jackal season 2 plot
Sky is yet to share an official synopsis for what The Day of the Jackal season 2 has in store, but given that dramatic season 1 ending, we have some thoughts on where things are headed.
The finale sees The Jackal more determined than ever to find his wife Nuria who had tried to escape from her assassin husband, while there's also the unsettled debt between The Jackal and Zina Jansone (Eleanor Matsuura) to consider, with Timothy Winthrop (Charles Dance) being floated as a target.
With that in mind, The Day of the Jackal season 2 plot is sure to deliver on both the drama and dramatic fight scenes.
