The best vitamin C eye creams are worth knowing about if, like me, you regularly wake up with puffy, tired-looking eyes that no amount of concealer seems to fully fix. Much like the best vitamin C serums, they’re designed to help brighten, even and protect the skin - only in formulas made specifically for the delicate under-eye area.

“Vitamin C eye creams offer additional brightening benefits,” says Dr. Kaywaan Khan. “Vitamin C helps target dullness and uneven pigmentation underneath the eyes, which can be particularly useful for people with dark circles linked to sun exposure. As an antioxidant, it also helps protect the delicate skin around the eyes from environmental stressors that can worsen pigmentation over time.”

Personally, I’m looking for an eye cream that makes me look fresher, brighter and more awake with minimal effort - especially on busy mornings when my under-eyes are giving ‘I didn’t sleep enough’. The best formulas do exactly that, often pairing vitamin C with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, caffeine or peptides to help hydrate, smooth and de-puff. From lightweight creams that sit beautifully under concealer to richer options for dry under-eyes, these are the vitamin C eye creams worth adding to your routine.

How we tested vitamin C eye creams:

To find the best vitamin C eye creams, we tested a range of formulas over several weeks, from lightweight gel textures to richer creams designed for drier skin types. We focused on how well each product performed when it came to brightening dark circles, reducing the look of tired under-eyes, smoothing fine lines and delivering lasting hydration throughout the day. We also paid close attention to texture, absorption and whether the formulas layered well under makeup and concealer - because no one wants their under-eye products pilling before they’ve even left the house.

Because skincare sits and reacts differently on everybody, I also roped in the rest of the talented Glamour team to help test the products across a variety of skin tones, skin types and ages. Some testers were looking for help with dark circles and general dullness, while others prioritised hydration, puffiness or fine lines. Together, we considered everything from ingredient lists and finish to how fresh and bright our under-eyes looked both immediately after application and after continued use over time.

Why you can trust me:

I’ve been a beauty journalist for six years now, and testing products is a huge part of my job. I’ve just turned 30, so I wouldn’t say I’m looking for a drastic change when it comes to fine lines and wrinkles just yet - but seeing as the eye area is one of the first places to show signs of ageing, I’m definitely more aware of looking after it properly. For me, that means using a good eye cream every day, especially one with brightening ingredients like vitamin C.

I’ve also reached out to experts and dermatologists, attended new launches and done my research when it comes to eye creams, so if a product has made it into this list, it’s because it genuinely stood out. What I do have is puffy eyes - especially in the morning - and sensitive under-eyes, so anything too rich, too fragranced or even slightly irritating is a no from me. I’ve also gone to fairly extreme lengths in the name of fresher-looking under-eyes, including polynucleotides (yes, salmon sperm) injections, so trust me when I say I’m invested in this category.

1.Best overall: Paula's Choice C5 Super Boost Eye Cream

Paula's Choice C5 Super Boost Eye Cream

  • Key ingredients: 5% stabilised vitamin C, bio-active peptides, hyaluronic acid, and concentrated ginger extract.
  • Pros: Rich cream that immediately brightens and hydrates.
  • Cons: Leaves a slight white cast & expensive.
  • Tested by: Shani Cohen, Glamour's Commerce Beauty Writer.

Why we love it: "The pump applicator immediately won me over - not only does it help preserve the product and feel far more hygienic than a pot, but it also makes it much easier to dispense the right amount. I noticed an instant brightening effect after applying it, and my under-eyes looked fresher pretty much straight away. The formula also contains peptides and hyaluronic acid, which my sensitive, dry under-eyes really appreciated.

It also features zerumbone, a concentrated form of ginger extract, which helps reduce the look of under-eye discolouration and puffiness - and as someone who regularly wakes up with puffy morning eyes, I definitely appreciated the de-puffing benefits. Texture-wise, it feels richer than a lot of eye creams I’ve tried, which gives it a more luxe feel and helps justify the higher price point. That said, it did leave a slight white cast on me and pilled a little when I applied concealer over the top, so I’d probably say to save this one for no-makeup days.”

2. Best for sensitive eyes: Dermalogica Biolumin C Eye Serum

Dermalogica Biolumin-C Eye Serum

  • Key ingredients: Vitamin C complex, papaya plant, mushroom & arjun tree extract.
  • Pros: Leaves under-eye area instantly smoother and hydrated.
  • Cons: Comes out quickly, so squeeze the tube gently to avoid wasting product.2
  • Tested by: Néamh Randall, Glamour's Commerce Photo Editor.

Why we love it: "I’ve been using the Dermalogica Biolumin-C Eye Serum and it’s quickly become one of my favourite eye products. What stood out to me most was how lightweight the formula feels - it absorbs really quickly without leaving behind any greasy or heavy residue. A lot of eye creams I have tried tend to not absorb and then interfere with my makeup, leaving a residue when applying my Charlotte Tilbury foundation.

My under-eye area felt hydrated and smoother without looking shiny, and it gave a fresher, brighter appearance over time. I also noticed it helped slightly with tired-looking dark circles and made the skin under my eyes feel firmer, great for a sleep deprived mum!

One thing to be aware of is that the product comes out of the tube quite quickly, so it’s easy to squeeze out more than you need at first, but although it’s definitely on the pricier side, a little does go a long way, so the bottle lasts longer than expected.

If you prefer lightweight skincare and struggle with heavy eye creams affecting your makeup, I’d definitely recommend giving this a try."

3. Best brightening: Ole Henriksen Banana Bright+ Vitamin C Eye Crème

Image may contain: Bottle, Cosmetics, Head, Person, Face, and Perfume

Ole Henriksen Banana Bright™+ Eye Crème

  • Key ingredients: Triple vitamin C complex, banana powder-inspired pigments.
  • Pros: Instantly brightens thanks to banana powder-inspired pigments.
  • Cons: Pot container isn't the most hygienic.
  • Tested by: Sophie Donovan, Glamour's Senior Commerce Writer.

Why we love it: "My dark circles and puffy bags are two things I’m really self-conscious of - I hate the fact that they give away that I stayed up late to catch up on the Real Housewives. I’d seen various content creators rave about this eye cream and so had high hopes - and I can confirm, it delivered.

On the first use, my undereyes felt hydrated and looked visibly brighter, allowing me to use less concealer and skip my mid-afternoon top up. It also didn’t cause my makeup to crease or pill. After a week, I also noticed I looked more awake. I’m still in the process of testing, but so far, so so good!"

4. Best anti-ageing: Kiehl's Powerful Line Reducing Eye Serum

  • Key ingredients: 10% pure vitamin C, tri-peptide complex, hyaluronic acid.
  • Pros: Makes visible difference to the appearance of fine lines and crow’s feet.
  • Cons: Can sting slightly - so not one for sensitive skin types.
  • Tested by: Mayola Fernandes, Glamour's Commerce Writer.

Why we love it: "I’ve been using Kiehl’s eye treatment for a couple of weeks now. It’s formulated with 10% pure vitamin C to help target dark circles and soften the look of fine lines. It gives my under-eye area a more refreshed appearance, especially on tired days, and sinks in quickly without leaving any residue.

Alongside the vitamin C, it’s boosted with hyaluronic acid, glycerin and a tri-peptide complex, which all work together to keep my delicate eye area feeling more hydrated and smoother over time. Results-wise, it’s only been a few weeks so I haven’t noticed any drastic changes, but I’m excited to see how things progress over the next few weeks."

5. Best affordable: Sephora Collection Brightening Glow Eye Cream

Sephora Collection Brightening Glow Eye Cream

  • Key ingredients: Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E.
  • Pros: Makes visible difference to the appearance of fine lines and crow’s feet.
  • Cons: Can sting slightly - so not one for sensitive skin types.
  • Tested by: Shani Cohen, Glamour's Commerce Beauty Writer.

Why we love it: “Tbh, I’ll almost always prefer a pump or squeezy applicator over a pot when it comes to skincare. It just feels more hygienic, less messy and means I’m not constantly sticking my nails into a product first thing in the morning. That said, for an affordable eye cream under £20, I was genuinely impressed with the Sephora Collection Brightening Glow Eye Cream. It gave my under-eyes an instant hit of brightness and hydration, didn’t leave a white cast, and worked really nicely under makeup without pilling.

Texture-wise, it sits in that perfect middle ground: not too light, not too rich, and it absorbs super quickly into the skin. The formula contains vitamin C for radiance and hyaluronic acid, which is always an ingredient I look for as a dry skin girl. Did it immediately get rid of my puffiness? Not exactly. But it felt lovely and hydrating on the skin, didn’t cause any sensitivity, and left my under-eyes looking fresh without feeling greasy or oily. It’s not got the most impressive ingredient line-up, especially compared to some of the pricier eye creams in this list, but for the price, it’s a really great everyday option that gives your under-eyes a healthy dose of hydration.”

6. Best drugstore: NIP+FAB Vitamin C Fix Eye Cream

Image may contain: Bottle, Cosmetics, Sunscreen, Lotion, Dynamite, and Weapon

NIP+FAB Vitamin C Fix Eye Cream

  • Key ingredients: Vitamin C, peptides, caffeine and niacinamide.
  • Pros: Contains caffeine to wake up tired eyes and niacinamide to lock in moisture.
  • Cons: Felt a little tacky on the skin and did pill under makeup.
  • Tested by: Shani Cohen, Glamour's Commerce Beauty Writer.

Why we love it: “I’ve been using Nip + Fab products for years now and, imo, they make some of the best affordable skincare on the market, so I was really excited to give the Vitamin C Fix Eye Cream a go. Unlike a lot of the other vitamin C eye creams in this guide that have that slightly yellow undertone, this one is completely white and looks much more like your typical moisturiser. That said, I was impressed that it didn’t leave behind any white cast at all, and it absorbed into my under-eyes within seconds.

I’d also say the applicator is one of my favourites from this list. The slim nozzle makes it really easy to control exactly how much product comes out, and I liked how precise the application felt around the eye area. The formula itself contains three stable forms of vitamin C alongside peptides, caffeine and niacinamide, so there’s a lot going on for the price point, especially if brightness is your main concern. Texture-wise though, I did find it a little tackier and slightly more drying compared to some of the smoother, more hydrating formulas in this guide. Under makeup, I noticed a bit of creasing and pilling around my concealer too, so personally, I preferred using this one on lighter makeup days.”

FAQ's:

Meet our expert:

Dr. Kaywaan KhanGP, Medical Aesthetic Doctor and Founder of Harley Street’s Hannah London Clinic

Do you put eye cream on before or after moisturiser?

“Eye cream should generally be applied before moisturiser. The under-eye area has much
thinner and more delicate skin than the rest of the face, so targeted treatments are best applied directly onto clean skin first so they can absorb properly. Once the eye cream has settled, moisturiser and SPF50+ can then be layered on top. Care and caution are important around the eyes because overloading the area with active ingredients can easily lead to irritation and dryness. This layering approach allows each product to absorb fully without interference, and the moisturiser and sunscreen then create a protective barrier over the eye cream, helping to lock in hydration.”

Is it better to use eye cream in the morning or evening?

"Vitamin C eye creams can work well both morning and evening because they help brighten dullness, support antioxidant protection and improve the appearance of pigmentation around the eyes. In the morning especially, vitamin C can help give the under-eye area a fresher and more radiant appearance while also working well underneath sunscreen and makeup.

However, if choosing between a vitamin C eye cream and an eye treatment containing a retinoid such as tretinoin, tretinoin would generally win in terms of long-term results. Tretinoin is a prescription-strength retinoid and is one of the most effective ingredients for improving pigmentation, fine lines, and skin texture because it stimulates collagen production
and increases cell turnover."

Will an eye cream really make a difference?

"A well-formulated eye cream can make a difference, but expectations need to be realistic. The under-eye area is delicate and often affected by multiple concerns at once, including pigmentation, dehydration, hollowing and dry skin. Using the wrong products or applying strong actives too aggressively around the eyes can actually worsen irritation, which may then require steroid creams to calm the skin down. The most effective eye care routine is one you'll actually stick with, which means choosing products that are tailored to your skin concerns and deliver results without causing irritation."

Why a vitamin C eye cream over a normal one?

"Normal eye creams mainly focus on moisturisation under the eyes, which can help support the skin barrier and improve the appearance of fine lines associated with ageing. Hydration alone can make the under-eye area look smoother and less tired, particularly if dehydration is contributing to creasing or dullness.

Vitamin C eye creams, however, offer additional brightening benefits. Vitamin C helps target dullness and uneven pigmentation underneath the eyes, which can be particularly useful for people with dark circles linked to sun exposure. As an antioxidant, it also helps protect the delicate skin around the eyes from environmental stressors that can worsen pigmentation over time.

Vitamin C works best when used consistently and in conjunction with daily sunscreen. Where appropriate, evening retinoids such as tretinoin can also be incorporated under the guidance of a skin doctor, to support improvements in skin texture and stubborn pigmentation."
