She may have sung that she’s an “Anti-Hero,” but at the Grammys 2024, Taylor Swift proved herself to be anything but. By taking home the Album of the Year Grammy for Midnights, Taylor broke a record she had previously shared with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon. Each of the men won Album of the Year three times, but Taylor has now received the honour four times, more than any other artist in Grammy's history.
“I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life but I feel this happy when I finish a song,” she said while accepting the record-breaking award, which was announced by surprise presenter Celine Dion. “For me, the award is the work,” Taylor continued. “All I want to do is to keep being able to do this, so thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to let me do what I love so much."
Boy does she love keeping us on our toes
Taylor has now won 14 Grammys over her career, and used her first win of the evening, for Pop Vocal Album, to drop some news of her own: She’s releasing new music. Noting that the win was her 13th at the Grammys, her lucky number, Swift finally shared what she’s been working on at Electric Lady Studios, where she's been pictured in recent months.
“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19,” she said in that speech. “It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m gonna go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you. I love you. Thank you.”
Are we entering a new era?
Taylor arrived on the Grammys red carpet in a custom Schiaparelli gown and 300 carats of Lorraine Schwartz jewellery on her neck. While many had hoped Sunday’s event would be the red carpet debut for Taylor and her boyfriend Travis Kelce, the American Football player and his Kansas City Chiefs were busy preparing for next weekend’s Super Bowl, when they’ll face off against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
