There’s one shade that we’ve noticed has been recruiting celebrities and ‘It’ girls since the start of the year. Dubbed ‘syrup blonde’ by top hair stylist and trend forecaster Tom Smith, it's soft, silky, golden and honestly, almost lickable.
Heading into spring, it offers up a fresh hair shade that feels like a step-change from winter, but gives a gentler alternative to peroxide platinums. It also brings a glowy warmth that looks beautiful against dark to light complexions.
What is syrup blonde?
If you’re getting golden syrup vibes, you’re on the right lines. “Intensely sticky and sweet, syrup blonde is the most indulgent shade for those who prefer to wear their hair lighter,” says Tom. “With undertones of gold, caramel and vanilla this is the most delicious shade,” he adds.
The bonus of those yummy golden tones is that they read more glossy to give the sheen that sets syrup hair apart. “Warmer tones always appear brighter, healthier and shinier and so this tone direction is a fantastic choice for those whose blonde may be feeling a little lack-lustre,” Tom explains.
What to ask your stylist?
If you’re already blonde, a small tweak can give you this look. “Adding a toner to your usual highlighting or blonding appointment is all that is required to achieve this shade,” says Tom. “Have you colourist go as warm as possible without tipping into ‘strawberry blonde’ territory and keep the blonde as light as possible with minimal darker shadows or lowlights,” he adds.
