Sydney Sweeney is ready for an ’80s wedding in her vintage Mugler dress

The Euphoria star is making big belts a thing again.

Sydney Sweeney may not have been alive in the ’80s, but she knows how to show the decade's fashions the respect they deserve.

For the Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards on Sunday, August 14, the Euphoria star chose a vintage velvet Mugler minidress from 1981. The 24-year-old's deep green mini has voluminous accents at the hips and is pulled together by an oversized belt and sculptural sleeves.

Sweeney, styled by Molly Dickson, paired the Mugler dress with two-toned Jimmy Choo heels, a pearl necklace (she was really leaning into the ’80s prom theme here), drop earrings, a silver bracelet, and silver rings. For makeup, Sweeney wore classic but sultry black eyeliner with bright lids and a matte nude lip. The hairstyle brought the look into 2022 via the ’90s: She wore an easy updo with a few pieces of her blonde hair framing her face.

Thierry Mugler was a French designer who rose to prominence in the ’80s and ’90s for his avant-garde architectural designs. On Instagram Dickson wrote, “Syd really envisioned a vintage dress for this event” and said that, following a lot of research, the dress was sourced from New York Vintage.

Sweeney attended the event as a nominee for her work as a supporting actress on the limited series The White Lotus. She's also nominated for two Emmys this year: one for her work on Euphoria, and another for her work on The White Lotus. The ceremony is on September 12.
