Netflix's Supacell quickly become our latest obsession, with the first season of the British superhero series storming the streamer's charts to secure a spot in the platform's global top 10 within days of its release back in June.
Created by Rapman (Blue Story), the six-part series is the first original Netflix series to be written and produced by a Black filmmaker for the streamer – and offers up a perfect blend of sci-fi, South London and the supernatural.
And the good news? It's officially coming back for a second season.
“I can’t wait for the world to see Supacell, season 2," Rapman said in a statement. "For me season 1 was always an origin story. Season 2 is when the journey really begins. Season 1 was my Batman Begins, Season 2 is my Dark Knight.”
From the rate at which the show broke into Netflix's top shows, Supacell season two will be on everyone's watch list – so here's everything we know about the follow-up so far.
What is Supacell about?
Supacell follows the story of “A group of ordinary people from South London" who “unexpectedly develop super powers with no clear connection between them other than them all being Black”.
Per Netflix's synopsis, "As they deal with the impact on their daily lives, one man has to bring them together to protect the one he loves — all while avoiding the powerful and nefarious agents that have noticed their special abilities.”
Through the series, we see Michael (Tosin Cole) tap into his newfound powers to time travel in an effort to save his girlfriend Dionne (Adelayo Adedayo) from her unfortunate impending fate, though it's clear that Michael is grappling with a totally unfamiliar world of drug and gang culture.
On this, the show's creator Rapman says: “It skews the assumption that all people of colour know that world and know how it works. Those scenes are so important to me because they think everyone Black must know it and that all Black people must be familiar with that world.”
What do we know about Supacell season 2?
In a previous interview, the show's creator revealed: “I've told Netflix loads of times that I've got plans for multiple seasons. But you know how it goes, they're gonna see how it does, and hopefully we get the next season.”
He added, "I told them, I've got a three-season idea story in my head. So, I got three, not saying it could never go over, but I've got three stories, these three seasons in my head, of where I know where the story goes.”
He has added that we might see a darker side to protagonist Michael after his harrowing loss in the season finale. “You can have the nicest person in the world. You push that person too far, and that person has the extraordinary power? You could create something very dangerous,” Rapman said.

What would the Supacell season 2 plot be?
Be warned, spoilers ahead.
There's plenty of questions that need answering in Supacell season 2.
After Dionne's death in the season 1 finale, a post-credits scene offers a deeper look into the inner workings of The Organisation. We see Ray walking past several prisoners with superpowers, including Sabrina's missing sister Sharleen, with Victoria being revealed as the group's leader.
She says to Krazy, “You remember that I took you out of prison. You remember that I allowed you to sell your drugs. I saved your life on multiple occasions”.
Krazy asks for “one more chance” but this is flatly denied, with him being shot dead.
Ray then joins Victoria, with her reminding him that Krazy is “not the only one who’s failed [her].”
Interesting.
So who else is on the list and which other familiar faces are members of The Organisation? In our humble opinion, this sets the scene for the second season rather perfectly.
Supacell season 1 is available to watch on Netflix now.
