Stevie Nicks is an icon, from her songs, to her stage presence and… her hair. There's a reason the Stevie Cut is back and kicking 50 years after she put attention-seeking layers on the map.
The Fleetwood Mac front woman has been serving up inspo from the moment she drew breath (she previously admitted: “by the time I was five, I was a little diva,) and now that she's touring again, it was only a matter of time before we all started sipping from her cup of kool-aid. It's no surprises then, that we've spotted her influence soaking into the hairstyles of some of our favourite stars (Daisy Edgar-Jones, Suki Waterhouse, Doja Cat and Dakota Johnson to name a few) because the Stevie cut has started to trend again.
What is the Stevie Cut?
Inspired by Stevie Nicks' iconic ‘70s hairstyle, the Stevie Cut features a heavy, swooshy fringe and textured choppy layers. It’s best worn mussy with tons of attitude to capture the bohemian spirit of its namesake.
The beauty of this cut is that it has a mix of our favourite elements, it adds volume and texture and because it plays into individual hair types and curl patterns, it offers up a load of personality, too.
How to get the Stevie Cut?
The Stevie Cut can work across a range of textures and hair types. In fact, the cut embraces natural waves, kinks, coils and curls to add oomph and texture. It looks phenomenal air-dried, but equally you can style it to give it some more polish or some tactical texture. The key is working with your hair type so that the cut falls perfectly for you and your features. This could mean asking your hair stylist for a curl by curl cut, or matching the choppiness to your aesthetic. The shorter and shaggier the layers, the more rebellious and undone the finish. Longer layers can nod to the trend but can be easier to style and tie-back, plus they tend to look a little more sleek. The same goes for the fringe. You can take it as heavy as you like, or opt for more of a curtain style if you want something more flexible that you can tuck back when you need.
How to wear the Stevie Cut?
Recently, we spotted Daisy Edgar-Jones in New York on the press run for her new film, Twisters, a disaster movie centred around a tornado. The actress went method, teaming up with her hair stylist, Bryce Scarlett for an intentionally wind-swept style that sees volume and texture through her roots and fringe, with longer, sleeker layers through the ends. You can keep the tornado, but the hair inspo, we're very much into.
Below we've rounded up some of our favourite ways to wear the style.
