I can say with confidence now that I'm on the other end of motherhood, also known as the fourth trimester, that a solo baby moon may have been one of my best decisions I made as a mum-to-be.

The first time I was pregnant, it was 2020, right in the middle of the Covid pandemic. My partner and I had just relocated to another country for a new job. We didn’t speak the language, we had no family around, and a travel ban was introduced pretty much as soon as we got a very different kind of positive test. For most of my pregnancy, labour and postpartum, we were winging it, a familiar feeling for so many first-time parents navigating modern life.

Looking back, despite the challenges, I remember my first pregnancy as a positive chapter. But now, in this new season, I can see how those experiences shaped me and taught me what I would do differently if we were ever lucky enough to welcome another baby.

Fast forward three and a half years, and here I am, eight months pregnant, on a solo Mom’z retreat. I’m learning more than ever about my body and birth, dancing and bonding with other mums-to-be, eating well and having the time of my life while creating a life.I truly manifested this moment.

Although it can feel a strange time to drop everything, leave your family or partner and embark on a solo adventure. Prenatal retreats are sacred for the space that they give to mums-to-be to escape the chaos of modern life and move through pregnancy feeling more connected to their bodies and baby. More than that, they give women the knowledge and empowerment to approach childbirth with confidence, something that can be life changing when the big day arrives. (I swear I never realised the power of my pelvis until now!)

So much of my second pregnancy has been wrapped up in the question of being enough. This retreat was a transformative experience and I had a break-through that as a modern mother, despite the pressures of work and modern life, my love is limitless, my body is the source and I always have been more than enough. I only hope that every mama could experience this too.

What is a solo baby moon retreat?

We’re living through the boom of baby moon’s, my first one during my first pregnancy was in Cancun during spring break and I vowed to never do that to myself again. Instead of the babymoon feeling like a honeymoon with no booze, I was so refreshed to find another approach to this that is better suited for your pregnancy and childbirth…enter Mom’z solo babymoon retreat.

Mom’z was founded by Shirin, who is a mother of two and is led by an all female team out of Spain. The solo babymoon is built on the premise that everything is curated intentionally for the mum and is a perfect combination of a holiday, wellness retreat and childbirth prep classes. There was so much to embrace and it was a safe space where you could voice any concern little or large and be met with nods and familiarity, this is the kind of circle that every mama needs and it’s never too early to start building. At Mom’z, you are reminded that motherhood is not something you have to navigate alone. It’s a space to pause and gather the tools - emotional, physical and practical to step into this new chapter feeling empowered.

Amber Sawyer was our retreat leader and also a Childbirth Educator, Prenatal Yoga Teacher, Birth Doula. She created a space that we all felt held by and connected us as women, beyond our pregnancies. It really takes someone special to lead a group of pregnant women from all different backgrounds through visualisations, movement and knowledge classes with usuch ease and humour. Amber is an instrumental part of the Momz team but more importantly the birthing community, a beautiful reminder that our bodies hold all the power for birth.

Maria, the marketing manager and creative heart of the retreat, has an uncanny talent for personalising each mum’s experience, because let’s face it, no two soon-to-be-mamas are the same. Whether it’s karaoke or arts and crafts, she seemed to know exactly what each mama needed to feel nourished, seen, and celebrated in this precious pre-baby moment. The authenticity of the team builds a foundation for you to be able to truly reset your nervous system.

One of my favourite parts of the day was brunch, which was truly out of this world. Eating in pregnancy can become stressful and it was bliss to have thoughtfully prepared, nourishing plates that you could tuck into without a second thought. Each dish was crafted with a holistic approach to pregnancy in mind, balancing flavour and nutrients to leave you feeling satisfied. The chefs, a mother and daughter duo, brought a personal touch to every meal with creations like homemade cashew butter and crunchy granola that I loved so much I went on to recreate them throughout my pregnancy. I loved the long tables overflowing with vibrant salads, warm breads, fresh fruit and comforting dishes that became the backdrop for those honest mama-to-mama conversations that flow so easily over good food.

I went to the Mom’z retreat with an open mind and heart, but I wasn’t expecting such a deeply nourishing experience with a community of mamas from so many different backgrounds. We laughed, cried, shared stories, and built bonds that felt as transformative as the retreat itself. It reminded me that motherhood doesn’t have to be a solitary journey, and that sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do before welcoming a new life is to pause, connect, and let yourself be cared for too.

Mom'z offers private and shared rooms with prices starting from €2,700.
