The jellyfish haircut blew up at the Grammy's. Now it seems slicked-back buns are taking over the BAFTAs 2025.

Sure, updo's are a perennial favourite on the red carpet. With their clean, minimal lines, they're the type of hairstyle that lets a carefully choreographed makeup look doing the talking.

But with not one, not two, but eight celebrities showcasing different iterations of a slicked-back bun at the BAFTAs 2025, it's also a style to get to grips with for spring. Especially when you consider its other benefits - aka, getting the hair off the back of your neck in warm weather and (whisper it) giving second- or even third-day hair a stylish refresh.

The tools you'll need to recreate the look at home are hair oil (try Kerastase Elixir Ultime or Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil) or gel, a hair tie to secure your ponytail, some pins and a brush – either a natural bristle brush or a tooth brush – to ensure the hair on the crown lies flat (Larry King's Flyway Kit is a good all-in-one option).

But if you need more inspiration, here are the best slicked-back buns from the BAFTAs 2025 red carpet.

Leading the charge of celebrities giving the slicked-back bun their stamp of approval was Molly-Mae Hague with a sculptural knot – and not a flyaway in sight.

On the softer end of the slicked-back bun spectrum, Wunmi Mosaku added interest to her updo with an intricately braided bun and a section of fringe tucked nonchalantly behind her ear.

Marisa Abela kept things simple by pulling her chocolate brown strands into a wet-look bun to complement her dewy complexion.

Celebrity hairstylist Peter Lux crafted what appears to be Grecian goddess-like plaits wound intricately into a double bun for The Brutalist actress Raffey Cassidy.

Ariana Grande

Kate Green

Ariana Grande's hair was scooped into a sleek bun, held in place with a ribbon in the same inky black hue as her cat-eye flick and plunging velvet bodice.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez's flicked-out bob has been under the spotlight on the red carpet of late. For the BAFTAs 2025, she styled it in a deep side part and sleek bun. But what we love most is how she made a dainty feature of her edges.

Hannah Dodd

Bridgerton star Hannah Dodd's beauty brief was clearly glow. Her sleek, snatched bun mirrored the glass-like quality of her base and brushed up brows.

Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan's balletcore bun made way for a crisp crimson lip to take centre stage.
