When it comes to switching up your hair, shorter styles are one of the most popular choices right now. Bob haircuts continue to reign supreme—from Sofia Richie to Alexandra Daddario, it seems every celeb has cosigned on the shorter length.

But the inspo doesn't stop at just bobs. There are plenty of other dreamy autumn haircut ideas to see you through the end of summer and well into the colder months.

Short hair is sure to be on trend for the rest of 2025, meaning there's no bad time to make the big chop. Plus, short styles make styling so quick and easy, which is especially convenient if you’re tired of long, heavy hair getting in your way in this hot weather.

The 5 short autumn haircuts that will rule this year

1. The Trinity cut

The character Trinity from the Matrix saga has long been a muse for the fashion world. But in recent months her short haircut has also become a prime inspiration for It girls. After all, Delilah Belle Hamlin, model and daughter of Lisa Rinna, has adopted the character’s signature hairstyle. With a short base cut, tapered front locks, and slightly longer layers, the Trinity cut rides the line between a pixie cut and a bob, borrowing from the cyberpunk and boyish aesthetics of the movies. The layers and slightly choppy look make for lower-maintenance hair.

2. The French bob

We undeniably follow Sofia Richie Grainge’s beauty advice to a tee, whether it’s her slicked-back buns or makeup routines. So when the It girl decides to change her look, we’d be lying if we said we don’t listen and follow suit. The proof is in the French bob the new mom got this summer. Effortlessly chic and elegant, the French bob is slightly textured and blunt on the ends, which hit just above the top of the shoulders.

3. The curly shag

At the crossroads between a layered cut and a modern mullet, the shag has been building its reputation as a disruptive, edgy cut for some years now. So this fall the retro look is reinventing itself with longer, softer lines, as seen on actor Florence Pugh. Perfect for textured hair, the curly shag is shaping up to be September’s hottest bohemian-chic cut. For super-curly or -coily hair types, try the baby bob instead.

4. The side-part bob

Side-part hairstyles are back as a key hair trend on the runways and in everyday style. This fall the bob will get an upgrade with a side part. It’s an easy way to refresh your cut, and there’s even a trick to make your hair look more voluminous with a side part. “Style your hair in the opposite direction of how you typically style it,” says Suzette Boozer, celebrity hairstylist and Dippity-Do curly hair expert. “For example, if you part your hair on the left, blow-dry or air-dry it going to the right. Once it’s completely dry, flip it back to your preferred part, and you’ll instantly notice more lift and body.”

5. The lixie

Emma Stone’s recent hair change is not to be missed. At the premiere of her new film Eddington, the actor unveiled a new short haircut that quickly set the web ablaze: the lixie. A longer version of a pixie cut, the lixie is a typical tomboy haircut but has looser, freer lines to let natural curls and waves express themselves. With shaggy layers, it grows out easily and seamlessly.
