There's one hair trend guaranteed to get you compliments for the year ahead, and it probably won't come as a surprise. We're already thinking about the 2025 bob hairstyles that will headline the next dozen or so months because our collective bobsession shows no signs of easing up any time soon.
Of course, the cut is a classic for a reason – it can elevate a simple outfit with extra impact and bring a whole new energy to your style. It's a little daring, it's beautifully tailored, it can feel effortless but also ultra polished. That's an impressive list of credentials for just one chop. As for what we can expect from 2025? Nostalgia will play a big part with the '90s bob and flicked bob giving us throwback inspo, meanwhile the length will alternate with cool short, sharp micro shapes and longer, swooshier renditions giving us a bougier aesthetic.
Intrigued? These are the 2025 bob hairstyles to know…
The micro bob
For a striking cut that will definitely make a statement, legendary hair stylist, Sam McKnight, predicts that short, sharp micro bobs will rule 2025.
Cut it so it sits “right at the nape and jaw,” he says. “It’s strong, with an androgynous cool edge, whether styled sleekly back with gel [Sam recommends the Hair by Sam McKnight Self Control Gel] or super fresh and clean for ultra glossy luxe shine. It’s modern and effortless,” he explains.

The cutie bob
There's one bob shape we keep seeing the girls on TikTok pulling up with: just below the chin (but still above the shoulders), softly blunt and chunky at the ends. We're dubbing it the cutie bob because it stays firmly in feminine territory without feeling androgynous, and it has a fresh, romantic playfulness to it, but it manages to feel really casual and wearable, too.
“I still think chunky bobs feel really relevant – where it’s chunky at the bottom with no wispy edges," says Luke Hersheson, celebrity hairstylist and CEO at Hershesons Salon. “It gives a volume at the ends without feeling too triangular, and you see lots of the neck,” he adds. In terms of styling, “The thing that makes it modern is when you pair it with a natural texture. What makes this hair great, is the slight kick-out on the ends, but it's still got that kind of heaviness to it,” says Luke. But, he adds, “You can do things like slick it back, and it starts to feel very contemporary."

The ‘90s bob
The ‘90s bob isn’t exactly new for 2025 – it's circled in the top bob trends for the past few seasons. The short, rounded shape taps up rom-com cuts from the likes of Cameron Diaz and The Parent Trap's Meredith Blake. The curved, slightly stacked shape gives it an airiness and bounce that's perfect if you want a chop that's big on volume.

The flicked bob
The flicked bob (also known as the bell-bottom bob) has undeniably been one of 2024's biggest bob trends. The shape has more to do with the styling than the cut itself. It's “a bob with minimal layers (with or without a fringe), that's flipped out at the ends. It's slim to the head nearer the parting and flares out with volume at the ends,” explains top hair stylist and trend forecaster Tom Smith.
And while bob flicks have been stamped out as “awkward” in previous years, they're now being firmly embraced. “I haven't seen this style of bob trending in my career. The flick-out that a bob does is something that people have tried to fight against in the past. When you cut a long bob, it can be quite frustrating when it flicks out on the shoulders. It follows the curve of the neck and the shoulder, so a lot of [longer length bobs] will do this anyway. The fact that this is something that's been taken on as a style and being intentionally exaggerated is really fun. It works on various lengths in various levels of drama,” Tom notes.

The boy bob
A classic bob that comes back around season after season and always looks fresh and cool is the blunt boy bob. “Blunt bobs will be a major trend, especially those cut to the jawline or chin,” says Ryan Forsythe, Artistic Education Director at Trevor Sorbie. “This look is sleek and versatile, often styled with a centre part. It can be worn tucked behind the ears for a polished vibe, flipped out for a playful touch [see above], or embraced in its natural texture for effortless style,” he adds. The key is to make sure it doesn't look too “done".

The bougie bob
Finally, we love a heavy, swishy bob that feels full, plush and luxurious, which is exactly where the bougie bob comes in. It's also a classic bob shape, but it leans toward the longer end of the spectrum, skimming just above the shoulders. The soft blunt ends help add a weightiness that makes hair look extra thick, and styling-wise, it works best when it looks polished. Hair health is the foundation of this look, so stock up on nourishing masks and bond-building treatments. As for styling, look for shine-inducing sprays and glosses and pair it with a softly blow-dried finish.
