So minimalist and elegant.

Selena Gomez’s Emmys 2025 manicure was barely there, in the best way. For tonight’s ceremony, the Only Murders in the Building star gave her red Louis Vuitton gown and soft glam the spotlight, but we still got all the details on her supporting nails.

Gomez may appear to be wearing a completely naked nail at a first glance, but her polish choice is actually quite intentional. “When choosing colour, I often love to play off makeup—sometimes the eye, sometimes the lip,” her go-to manicurist, Tom Bachik, tells Glamour. “Today, our inspo was ‘no makeup’ makeup.”

Natural square nails are on the rise this fall, and Bachik has been early to the trend: “Meticulous cuticles are a must, and shorter nails are trending,” he adds. Last week, Bachik shared a moody, short fall set he created for Jennifer Lopez—another famous client who's typically loyal to the almond-shaped tip.

Bachik has previously treated Gomez to trend-worthy long nail looks, from “spicy pink pepper” nails to metallic sets. Needless to say, her ultra-minimalist Emmys mani is a departure. “We went with a short nail in a natural square shape, following the shape of her finger tip,” he says

Eager to copy Gomez's clean, elegant, nails? Luckily, Bachik shared exactly how he created the “sophisticated silk” manicure. To start, he applied one coat of CND Shellac Base Coat, then, he layered on two “even, thin coats of CND Silk Thread for a modern nude with a pink shimmer.” To finish things off, CND Shellac No Wipe Top Coat added red carpet-worthy shine.

Bachik notes that the look is “full coverage, but with depth,” striking a balance between luxury and natural glow. Gomez proves that a simple, natural nail look works for everyday or formal occasions: Her manicure's understated sheen compliments her diamonds (earrings, two chunky rings, and her iconic engagement marquis-cut—hi, Benny Blanco!) without pulling too much attention. Consider us sold: it's a short nail fall.
