While the majority of us in the UK may have spent the last couple of weeks enjoying flurries of snow from the comfort of our homes or during tentative walks to grab coffee (and an inevitable bit of #content) whilst decked out in our comfiest - but by no means chicest - knitwear, our slightly more intrepid friends over in Sweden haven't let sub-zero temperatures and ankle-deep snow take away from their sartorial prowess.

In fact, despite a mostly digital schedule, many of the Scandi capital's most stylish dwellers were busy donning their most epic winter looks as they took to the ice-covered pavements during Stockholm Fashion Week in a successful bid to cement their reputation as one of street style's coolest cities.

From shoulder pads to duvet coats (duh) and seventies inspo, here are 10 of the best styling hacks to adopt pronto...

1. GO BOTTOM-HEAVY

Skinny jeans may have been knocked off the top spot a good while ago, but after a relatively brief reign it seems 'mom' jeans and the classic straight leg have also been usurped by the good old-fashioned flare. And we're not mad about it.

2. FASHIONABLY LAYER

It might sound obvious, but fashionably-curated winter layers aren't just about sticking on a pair of tights or adding a long-sleeve beneath your knit. Instead, opt for a pair of stirrup leggings beneath a skirt or a cosy hooded roll-neck under your jacket.

3. TRY BOLD SHOULDERS

A perfect way to add structure when you're layering to such an extend that you feel a litlle like a marshmallow, the bold shoulder pad provides a more aggressive silhouette and a more statement-making overall look.

4. CONTRAST YOUR FABRICS

If you're not keen on the idea of distorting your silhouette or being too bold with colour, a great way to update your aesthetic in winter is by contrasting ultra chic leather (faux or otherwise) with super soft knitwear.

5. ACCESSORISE WITH WHITE

A very self-explanatory but equally impactful wardrobe update that'll carry you through to spring comes courtesy of the undeniably powerful white accessory. Boots, bags, belts, or (ideally) all three.

6. SARTORIALLY REMINISCE

You'll likely already be aware of the seventies style resurgence over recent months, but winter is the perfect time to jump on the trend via suede, studs, flares and a little fringing.

7. DON'T BE AFRAID

Outerwear provides the perfect opportunity to be brave with colour and/or prints, as the ability to take it off whenever you begin to question your choice renders it far less overwhelming outfit commitment than a punchy trouser or top.

8. TUCK THOSE ANKLES

On the other end of the silhouette spectrum to the flare is the tucked ankle. Whether you're wearing a pair of joggers, jeans or even tailored trousers, stick on a pair of ankle boots and give them a little tuck action for a super contemporary look.

9. KEEP THINGS TONAL

'Nothing new here', you may be thinking, but while tonal beige looks no doubt dominate our autumn wardrobes there's something about the chic simplicity that really makes it stand out on a chaotic winter's day.

10. BALANCE YOUR LAYERS

Consider the layers of your outfit like a good sandwich. While a great filling is of course the main event, it needs the bread to hold it together. Similarly, a punchy print head-to-toe is all well and good, but to ground it and give it a little structure it's wise to add a neutral layer over the top.
