It looks like the Oscars are getting a much-needed boost of Kenergy. According to Variety, Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling will be performing the Oscar-nominated track I’m Just Ken at this year’s ceremony.
Written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, I’m Just Ken is one of two Oscar-nominated songs from Barbie, along with Billie Eilish’s Grammy-winning single What Was I Made For?. The category is rounded out by Jon Batiste’s It Never Went Away from American Symphony; Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People) from Killers of the Flower Moon; and honorary Oscar recipient Diane Warren’s The Fire Inside from Flamin’ Hot.
Both have been left out of the Best Director and Best Actress categories.
Ryan Gosling has been cagey throughout awards season about whether he’d be performing from the Oscars stage. “It might be too much of a risk to have me do it,” he said earlier this month. “I don’t know how that would work. But I’m open to it.”
He joins an illustrious list of actors who have been brave enough to perform their Oscar-nominated songs live at the ceremony. Amy Adams performed a song from Enchanted at the 2008 ceremony, while Gabriel García Bernal did a verse of the Oscar-winning tearjerker Remember Me from Coco in 2018.
The Oscars will take place on March 10, with Jimmy Kimmel returning as host. Let’s hope Gosling and his performance will be Kenough.
