The Golden Globes are traditionally known as the biggest party in Hollywood, but Rosamund Pike's look at the 2024 awards was a little more funereal than celebratory. This is mostly because she accessorised her black lace tea-dress with a black fascinator veil like an Italian widow in the 1960s. According to Pike, she wasn't just trying to channel her inner Moira Rose with this look. The veil had a practical purpose.

Asked by Variety's Marc Malkin if her headgear was a hat or a helmet or something, Pike responded gravely, “It's a protective veil.” She explained, “I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident." Pike said that on the 27th of December her face was “entirely smashed up” which is "not what you want when you're coming to the Golden Globes.”

As you may have noticed, Pike's face is now healed, so she didn't end up needing the veil after all. However, she says, she “kind of fell in love with the look.” It does certainly seem appropriate to the Saltburn role Rosamund Pike was nominated for a Golden Globe for.

And if the Golden Globes have a golden rule it is this: When in doubt of what to do, do the most.
