Rihanna has never met a red carpet she can’t slay. Just earlier this month, she (and her baby bump) hit the Met Gala in New York, where she was the last guest to walk the blue carpet in a show-stopping Marc Jacobs ’fit.
Two weeks later, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky made a surprise appearance at a Cannes Film Festival screening of Spike Lee’s new film, Highest 2 Lowest. In an early 2000’s-inspired Alaïa dress, which she styled with an equally early 2000’s-esque updo, she’s definitely in the running for the title of best-dressed at this year’s fest.
RiRi debuted baby-to-be number three at the Met Gala, because of course she did.
Listen — you don’t always need volume or nudity (neither of which are allowed at this year’s festival anyway) in order to make an entrance. With her asymmetrical turquoise cutout dress, Rihanna proves that cut and colour can be just as exciting as visible nipples or 10-foot long trains.
RiRi deliberately highlights her baby bump with this dress: the cutouts and knot details at the side emphasise it perfectly. The draped skirt looks wonderfully light thanks to the flowing fabric — even when spotted with raindrops.
However, Rihanna allowed just a little sparkle: she wore diamond jewellery from Boucheron, including floral ear cuffs and eye-catching rings. Her minimalist satin heels add an extra layer of shine.
A$SAP Rocky opted for a classic black suit by Saint Laurent for his Cannes look. Paired with Ray-Ban sunglasses, a glittering brooch, and gold bracelet, Rocky was the perfect complement to Rihanna’s more bohemian style. His best accessory? The umbrella (ella, ella) he carried to keep his lady dry.
