After playing “Fat Amy” in the Pitch Perfect franchise, Rebel Wilson is facing backlash over her new fashion line's limited size range.
On 3 November, Wilson announced a “limited edition drop” of a new fashion line with girlfriend Ramona Agruma, the L.A.-based owner of the loungewear company Lemon Ve Limon. So far, the R+R “experiment” features just one pair of sweatpants in sizes XS-XL and a hoodie in sizes XS-a combined L/XL. Considering Wilson has spoken about being treated differently by society depending on her size, fans were disappointed by R+R's limited range, to say the least.

In a video that has been viewed over 96 thousand times, TikTok user Destiny Ann questioned the logic behind Wilson's latest venture. “I don’t understand how someone who was plus size for the majority of her career, the majority of her life — someone who knows how hard it is to be fat, to shop for clothing and actually find it in your size — I don’t understand how someone with that background, that knowledge, can release a brand that only goes up to an XL,” she said.

There was even further discussion over on the actor's Instagram feed, where one user commented, “Imagine once being a plus size gal then bringing out a clothing range that isn't size inclusive.” Comments on that particular post have since been limited. Another wrote, "Really disappointed in this, only up to l/XL? As a former plus-size person, you should know better."

On Twitter, one user wrote, “This whole Rebel Wilson situation is deep under my skin. She honestly put out a clothing line that doesn’t include any plus sizes, even combining L and XL. Her entire career was built around her mocking her own plus-sized body. The fucking audacity.”

Though Wilson has not directly referenced the backlash, she seemed to address the root of the criticism on her Instagram Story. “In success we are planning on doing more colours and sizes for R&R CLUB,” she recently wrote, per screenshots shared by Buzzfeed. “We are experimenting with this limited capsule collection of only two pieces in limited sizes,” she wrote in another slide, before reportedly asking fans for input on sizing and colour options.
In the age of Yitty by Lizzo, it's hard to imagine Wilson was unable to launch a more size-inclusive “experiment” but this is also the actor who once described herself as "the first-ever plus-size girl to be the star of the romantic comedy" and blocked Twitter users who called out her erasure of Black women like Queen Latifah and Mo'Nique. Hopefully, she will expand R+R's size range in the future, but I imagine it will be too little, too late for many fans.
