'Size equality and diversity is not just a trend’: Kim Kardashian calls for fashion inclusivity at CFDA awards

Kim picks up the first-ever Innovation Award for SKIMS.

Kim Kardashian was honoured at last night’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards (CFDA) for her shapewear brand SKIMS.

Wearing a striking black strapless latex dress by Dolce & Gabbana, with a transparent bottom and her own SKIMS underneath, the entrepreneur received the first-ever Innovation Award - presented by Amazon Fashion for her shapewear brand SKIMS - and used her acceptance speech to call on fashion designers to be inclusive for women's body shapes.

Alongside Kim was SKIMS co-founder and CEO Jens Grede and founding partner and chief product officer Emma Grede. Kim told the audience, which included the likes of Bradley Cooper, Amy Schumer, Katie Holmes and Christina Ricci:

“We have put a strong emphasis since our launch on continuing to shape the industry to embrace size equality and diversity as a fixture and not just a trend and I see so many of you are doing just that.”

Kim was joined by her mother, Kris Jenner, as well as her sisters, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner as she accepted her award.

Elsewhere, Lenny Kravitz received the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award, Raul Lopez picked up the Accessories Design award and the honour for American Emerging Designer went to Elena Velez.

Cher made a surprise guest appearance to present stylist Patti Wilson with the Media Award.

The Board of Trustee’s Award was awarded to the late Virgil Abloh, to recognise his contribution to global fashion through his work with Louis Vuitton and brand Off-White.

This is not the first time Kim has been honored at the CFDAs, she received the Influencer Award in 2018.

Following its launch in 2019, Skims is now reportedly worth $3.2 billion. While initially launching as a shapewear range, it has since expanded to sell everything from lingerie to swimwear.
