Rebel Wilson has admitted that she felt “disconnected” using a surrogate to welcome her baby girl into the world.

Shortly after the newborn's arrival on Monday, November 7, the 42-year-old shared an adorable newborn wearing a pastel pink onesie and unicorn socks alongside the caption: "Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate. I can't even describe the love I have for her, she's a beautiful miracle!"

And over a month later, the Australian actress reflected on her journey to motherhood in an interview for TODAY, revealing that the process began in 2020. "I was getting to 40, and I was like, 'I really do want to become a mother'," she explained. "But at the time, I didn't have a partner, and so I went to the fertility doctor," Rebel went on to explain that she began trying IVF, however, the process didn't work.

Soon, she turned to surrogacy. “I was still young enough to try a few more times, and then luckily got my gorgeous baby girl. Having a baby via a surrogate is a bit different of an experience because in a way, you feel a little disconnected,” Rebel mentioned. She added that motherhood had completely changed her life. "You hold the baby and cut the umbilical cord and literally from — from that moment on, you're just like — it was just, like, amazing and so emotional," she recalled to host Maria Shriver.

Keeping things real, the Pitch Perfect star added that being a new mother and having a huge career comes with difficulties. "It's really challenging. I have this big international career and — you know, I'm, like, the breadwinner of my family — I like to think. So it's really challenging too, like, 'Well, now how do I do all the things and be a great mother and great partner and all of that?'" We think Rebel is doing a perfect job across the board!

Meanwhile, in her initial baby arrival post, Rebel had also gushed: "I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making…but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care. Thank you for helping me start my own family, it's an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!"

As well as becoming a mother, it has been a fantastic year for Wilson, who went public with girlfriend Ramona Agruma seven months ago with another Instagram announcement in which she called Agruma her "Disney princess."

Given Wilson's statement that her path to motherhood was "years" long, it's likely that Agruma came into the picture after Wilson had decided to become a parent. However, Royce's name does fit perfectly with Rebel and Ramona's current loungewear collaboration, which they named R and R.

R and R…and Baby R? Adorable.

Wilson told People in 2019 that her desire to become a mother inspired her to get healthier, especially after a fertility doctor, while discussing her potential to harvest and freeze her eggs, "looked me up and down and said, ‘You’d do much better if you were healthier.’

“I was taken aback. I thought, ‘Oh, God, this guy's so rude.’ He was right,” Rebel Wilson added. “I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It’s almost like I didn’t think of my own needs. I thought of a future child’s needs that really inspired me to get healthier.”
