You might have noticed a purple flower reaction turning up on some Facebook statuses – but when you go to try it, you can't use it. SO ANNOYING! So what is it, and why is it here? And...not here? Again, annoying!

Well, the answer is that Facebook brought back something it tried out in a few territories last year for Mother's Day, the idea being that you could spread floral joy while thanking your Mum for being awesome (if you're friends with your Mum on Facebook, that is.)
So that's all very sweet and everything, but Facebook noticed that it filled a gap in the reaction market. Sometimes, giving the thumbs up to something just doesn't cut it. Same with leaving a heart (and definitely not a sad, angry or "wow" face).
They brought this flower back to symbolise being thankful, or grateful, for someone's contribution. And no, it's not just for your Mum.

And just when we were getting used to it (and jealous of not having it) they took it away, AGAIN.

Guys, this is so unfair!

Yup, it looks like the flower is a short-lived annual deal on Facebook, focused around the countries that celebrate Mother's Day on May 14. RUDE.
When does the UK get to play?
*plaintive cries for UK-specific reaction next year*
