Barbie, move over. On the heels of Mattel's astronomically successful Barbie, another doll-inspired live action movie is heading our way: get ready for Polly Pocket starring Emily in Paris herself, Lily Collins.

If you were a 90s kid, you will remember Polly Pocket, one of the most sought-after toys originally created by a father for his daughter using a make-up powder compact. And the plastic icon is set to recapture the hearts of millennials all over again as she becomes the the subject of a soon-to-be released feature film. Yep, get ready for the ultimate in nostalgic film adaptations.

Lily Collins and Lena Dunham will collaborate on the live-action movie, and we haven’t been this excited about a childhood memory brought to life since Margot Robbie announced her lead role as Barbie, in, yep, Barbie, another upcoming production by the American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment company.

“Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me,” Dunham shared of the project. “Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it’s pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director collaborating with the brilliant Lily Collins, Robbie Brenner, Mattel and MGM.”

Who will star in the Polly Pocket film?

Lily Collins, for now better-known as Emily in Emily in Paris, will play the role of Polly as she brings a whole host of childhood nostalgia to our screens.

As well as playing the title role, the actor will also produce the film alongside Robbie Brenner and Kevin McKeon, who will oversee the project for Mattel Films, Sandino Moya-Smith and Winnie Carrillo for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and Lena Dunham’s production company Good Thing Going.

“First of all, they are two of my favorite ladies ever,” said Mattel producer Robbie Brenner of Collins and Dunham to Variety. “It’s been an amazing collaboration. Lena is so collaborative and rolls up her sleeves and really likes to roll around in notes and listen. She’s incredible. Lily is so smart and so specific and so productorial. It’s just been an incredible collaboration, so we are thrilled about it. Hopefully, we’ll be making that at some point in the future.”

What is the Polly Pocket film plot?

The plot brings the dolls of our youth to life, with the story centred around a young girl and a pocket-sized woman who form a friendship. We don't know much, but we do know that there is already a script.

At this stage though, the details are anyone's guess, but we imagine it'll involve fashion and friendship if Collin's Instagram post was anything to go by.
