While fashion is apparently the world’s third most polluting industry, fuel is definitely public enemy #1. Electric cars could be a clever sustainable change.
Whether fracking for gas, mining for coal or pumping for oil, fossil fuels end up powering most machines on the planet. And yes, that includes cars. If you’re still pottering around in a diesel or petrol-powered motor, one of the most pressing changes to reduce your carbon footprint could be the switch to an EV.
‘Sustainable’ labels can actually mean anything but…

The fashion industry seems slow to engage in truly sustainable practises, compared to innovations in the motor business. Allegations of greenwashing are common as brands will do anything to appear ‘greener’ and traditionally, it’s been hard to bring style and sustainability together (although that is changing fast, with a slew of new brands intent on ripping up the rulebook…) In contrast, the car business is moving apace. The first electric car was invented in the 1880s (yes really) but this century electric road vehicles have become common sights on the streets.
Except there is nothing common about Polestar. In terms of electric cars, these sleek vehicles are the stealth name to know. Founded by the Volvo group in 2017, when GLAMOUR test drove the Polestar 2 on a girls’ road trip earlier this year, heads turned. Everyone wanted to know what this chic, silent vehicle was. It’s an elite EV.
The foot-operated boot. That is all.

Obviously we care about more than the way a car looks but if you’re in the market to make the change, it’s obvious you will have researched all the essentials (charging time, battery capacity, climate impact - Polestar aims to build a climate neutral car by 2030 - and range (the Polestar 1 had the longest electric-only range of any hybrid car in the world.) Then it’s just down to choosing something that suits your aesthetic. Which is why we’re so excited that Polestar’s electric roadster concept is on its way.
The Polestar 6 takes sustainable motoring to a new level of sports-car chic and while the electric roadster is going into production for 2026, right now is the time to book in. Significant power, more tech at the touch of a button (or sometimes sensor-operated so you don’t even need to touch a button) and convertible. Thelma and Louise could never.
