You know us, we’re always in the mood for some delicious hair inspo, but one applause-worthy rendition of the classic bob that we love is the outgrown bob.
A lot of us can relate to the “chop or not to chop” dilemma. On the one hand: hello, length. The extra dreamy inches we accumulate between cuts can make us question whether we ought to fully commit to XXL Rapunzel lengths, like the ones rocked by the likes of Anya Taylor Joy and Megan Thee Stallion. On the other, dead ends are not the one and for healthier-looking ends, a shorter chop can be a smarter way to go.
We've all had them at some point, but here's how to really the style.

Which leads us to the outgrown bob. You can guess where we're going with this.
What is the outgrown bob?
Unsurprisingly, the name gives a lot away. And outgrown bob pairs a traditional bob shape with a slightly longer length – almost like it was cut in at jaw-length and has had a couple of months to grow out.
Why choose the outgrown bob?
The outgrown bob offers a versatile length that has the cool-girl appeal of a bob, while keeping enough length to be able to style your hair into a low bun, ponytail or top-knot. It hits the sweet spot between something new and fresh, while not feeling uncomfortably short for those of us whose necks aren't used to feeling naked. And, it can be a transitional step to something bolder in the future, whether your landing there before taking it even shorter next time, or whether its the first step on your long hair journey of growing it out.
How to get the outgrown bob?
Depending on the length you start with, this can be a dinky trim to make a grown-out bob feel fresh, or a more dramatic chop if you started with much longer lengths. It should finish just around or above the collarbone.
How to wear the outgrown bob?
One woman who knows her way around the smokin’ hairstyle is Maya Jama who flirted with the style at the weekend. Her shoulder-grazing crop fell somewhere in between long and short to create a beautiful middle-ground. But, she let followers know it that the chop, created by her hairstylist, Patrick Wilson, was temporary captioning her picture on Instagram: "Temporary bob flow."
“I created the look by braiding away the underneath of Maya's own natural hair. I applied extensions, then cut them into a bob length,” Patrick told GLAMOUR. “This way we were able to switch things up without the commitment,” he says. However, it looks so phenomenal, we reckon she should make the cut permanent.
