The Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress is one of the best hybrid models in the UK – despite being a newcomer to the mattress market. Here, one writer with back pain put it through its paces for three months to test its claims.

Having dealt with sporadic back aches and pains for several years, I could never pinpoint the exact cause. I often chalked it up to poor posture from long hours at my desk or a lack of regular exercise. But, after so many years of persistent discomfort, I finally realised it was time to take a closer look at my mattress.

For about five years, I’d been sleeping on a £100 mattress I picked up on Amazon, thinking I’d snagged a great deal. Turns out, some things just aren’t worth cutting corners on — and I learned that the hard way. Every morning, I’d wake up with a back that felt like it was in knots, a stiff neck, and, frankly, a mood that could ruin anyone’s day. I was desperate for a change and ready for something that screamed “luxury,” “support,” and, hopefully, “goodbye, back pain”.

After some thorough research, I landed on the Origin Hybrid Pro. And, for the past three months, I’ve been busy putting it to the test — assessing everything from setup to comfort — so I can share an honest review and, hopefully, help other pain-sufferers out there make an informed choice. Here are my thoughts:

Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress

Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress first impressions

I usually anticipate a bit of hassle when arranging deliveries, especially for larger items like a mattress. However, Origin has simplified the entire process, making it as smooth and stress-free as possible. They offer free delivery with your order, and for added convenience, you can opt for old mattress removal at checkout for £54.

The mattress arrived in a compact box, making it relatively easy to carry up the stairs to my room. Despite being a double size, it was vacuum-packed, rolled, and neatly boxed, which helped with manoeuvrability. While it was a bit tricky to remove from the box due to its weight, I still managed to do it on my own. Once freed, the mattress began expanding almost immediately.

The brand suggests allowing 24 hours for the mattress to fully expand, but even right after it inflated, I was already impressed by its sturdy, luxurious feel straight out of the box. Still, I followed their advice and let it rest for the full 24 hours to “inflate” completely before putting it to the test.

GLAMOUR road test: comfort and design

The first thing you’ll notice about the Origin Hybrid Pro is its plush pillow top — laying on it feels like resting on a soft yet supportive cloud. Designed to adapt to your individual shape, the mattress gently cradles your body — thanks to its innovative HexaGrid Plus construction —providing targeted pressure relief for your back and shoulders as you sleep. After a long day of being on the go, it's exactly what I need to melt into sweet slumber.

I’ll admit, I was a bit nervous that a hybrid mattress with a firmer feel might end up being too hard— or worse, feel like lying on a tough gym mat. However, Origin describes the mattress as medium-firm, and I’d definitely agree. It provides just the right level of support: firm with a touch of give, while also offering excellent elasticity and cushioning. It strikes a good balance between firmness and comfort, still delivering that slight “sink-in” sensation I love.

Since back pain was my primary concern, I was relieved to find that this mattress offers extra support in the centre third, where the majority of your body weight is concentrated. Plus, the 7-zone ergonomic support system – endorsed by orthopaedic experts – helps align your shoulders, back, hips, and legs, ensuring consistent pressure relief as you snooze. I’ll admit, the difference wasn’t immediately noticeable, but after a few weeks of sleeping on the mattress, I realised I was no longer waking up with a sore back.

I was also pleasantly surprised to notice that I wasn’t waking up as often during the night from overheating — a testament to the Hybrid Pro’s dual-action cooling technology. Its moisture-wicking Polar Silk Tencel fibres and breathable cooling graphite latex work together to regulate temperature effectively. This was an unexpected but major win in my book.

As a restless sleeper who tosses and turns throughout the night, its lack of motion transfer was another huge bonus. On my old memory foam mattress, my constant tossing and turning left me spending more time trying to get comfortable than actually getting a good night’s sleep.

Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress

Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress review: the verdict

After sleeping on the Origin Hybrid Pro for over three months, I can’t believe I didn’t upgrade my mattress sooner. While it took a bit of time to adjust to its initial firmness, and the improvements in my back pain weren’t immediate, it became noticeable over time — and the wait was absolutely worth it. This is a fantastic mattress for back pain, easily rivalling (and even surpassing) many I’ve slept on in five-star hotels.

While the price is on the higher side, it’s far from the most expensive option in the mattress market, and I believe it offers great value for money. I see this as a long-term investment in my sleep quality and overall well-being. Plus, given the growing body of evidence highlighting the critical role sleep plays in our health, investing in a high-quality mattress feels priceless to me.

One of the most reassuring aspects of purchasing the Origin Hybrid Pro is their generous 200-day sleep trial. This allows plenty of time to determine if the mattress is the right fit, which is ideal for such a hefty purchase — after all, it’s hard to know how well a mattress will suit you until you’ve actually slept on it for a while.

I was initially very sceptical about whether a mattress change could make a difference in my back pain, especially after trying various other solutions with little success. However, I’m happy to report that three months into using the Origin Hybrid Pro, my persistent back pain has significantly reduced. Having made no other major lifestyle changes during this time, I feel confident that the mattress played a key role in alleviating my discomfort.

If you try the mattress and decide it’s not the right fit, Origin stands out from other brands by donating all returns to the British Heart Foundation, so you can rest easy knowing it’s going to a worthy cause.
