Warning: spoilers for Only Murders in The Building season 3 below.
For three seasons, Hulu's Only Murders in The Building has made the most of having New York City as its backdrop. The series, led by Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, is famously set in The Arconia, a fictional building located in Manhattan, but we will be saying goodbye to NYC for the series' forthcoming fourth season.
Craig Erwich, the president of Disney Television Group, which oversees Hulu Originals programming, recently confirmed in an interview with Deadline that Only Murders in The Building season 4 will leave the confines of The Arconia and New York City and set camp in Los Angeles.
"I'm very excited to see Steve, Martin, and Selena take a little break from the apartment building and come to Los Angeles," Erwich told the publication. "In the same way that [showrunner] John Hoffman used the canvas of Broadway to tell what I think was one of the most unique seasons you've ever seen, the same unique Only Murders take will be applied to Los Angeles, which I'm really excited about."
Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building premiered on Hulu in August 2023, with guest stars that included Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin, Paul Rudd as Ben Glenroy, and Jesse Williams as Tobert, among others. The season 3 finale was released on October 3, 2023, and ended with the leading trio uncovering Ben Glenroy's killers before, would you guess it, another murder takes place. This time, it's Charles's charismatic stunt double Sazz Pataki, played by Glee's Jane Lynch, who is shot dead. (Would it be Only Murders in the Building if it didn't end on a cliffhanger?)
Luckily for viewers, Hulu confirmed Only Murders in the Building had been renewed for season 4 on the same day the season 3 finale premiered. The streamer shared the news with a post on the show's official social media channels, but it is yet to announce a tentative release date for the new season.

What will take our investigating trio to Los Angeles? Well, if you remember correctly, Meryl Streep's character is headed to the City of Angels to pursue her acting career more seriously, so a move to the West Coast could mean she and Oliver could rekindle their flame.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Hoffman revealed his wish to bring back Meryl Streep and Jesse Williams for Only Murders in the Building season 4. "I mean, for God's sakes, I would bring Paul [Rudd] back if we can," the showrunner joked. “Listen, I would bring everyone back, and that might happen. Victims, killers, they're all able to play in the landscape within this sort of certain narrative ways we can tell our stories.”
That said, Arconia lovers need not fret because the whole season won't be set in L.A. As Deadline notes in its interview with Erwich, "Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez will kick off Season 4 with a trip to Los Angeles before returning to The Arconia." How long the trip will be remains to be seen.
