Olivia Rodrigo's £50 retro trainers are trending

A gem from the ’60s.

Olivia Rodrigo knows a thing or two about cult classic shoes, and her latest Instagram photo dumb is the perfect proof. Over the years, we have seen the GUTS singer wearing anything from classic Dr. Martens boots to Converse trainers and Adidas Sambas. The latest timeless shoe to her cosign comes straight from the '60s.

On June 25, 2025, Olivia Rodrigo took to her Instagram to share a photo dump in honor of her moving out of her New York City apartment with a handful of OOTD pics taken over the years in front of her hallway mirror, and we couldn't help but zoom in on the trainers on the very first slide.

Posing alongside besties Madison Hu and Conan Gray, Rodrigo wore black sunglasses, a black leather jacket, and a black top with teal-washed jeans, and the pièce de résistance: a pair of Vans authentic trainers in the black and white colourway.

If you grew up loving trainers, you probably owned a pair or two of the Vans authentic growing up — or, in my case, multiple. The silhouette was first released in 1966 as the brand's inaugural shoe, and its legacy has been preserved intact for nearly six decades. The best part? They retail for only $55, making them one of the most affordable time-honoured shoes on the market. Second-best part? They are super versatile, so they go with any outfit.

Timeless styles like the Vans Authentic, whether low-top or high-top, have never truly left the scene, but they have gained particular momentum this spring and summer. Classic modern staples like this are one of the trending trainers styles this season, and we don't see them going away anytime soon, especially as more and more people trade platform shoes for flatter styles. (Liv's pic might be a throwback, but she was clearly ahead of the curve!)

Seeing Olivia Rodrigo in a pair of Vans Authentic is not surprising — not only do they completely fit her casual rockstar style, but she's also been seen wearing other styles from the brand before, including the classic slip-ons and the Sk8-Hi shoes.
