You have probably read the 'Cat Person' short story, published in the New Yorker earlier this week. The story revolves around one woman's experience with an older man, exploring an unpleasant sexual encounter and her discomfort following the date.

The story has been shared thousands of times, and women all over the world are collectively sighing in joint exasperation, having had their own experiences with a 'Cat Person'.

Many agree that it has brought to attention the fact that unsatisfying sex for women is an unfortunate byproduct of sexism....

People have also commented on how oblivious (many) men are to the fact that they have probably shown 'Cat Person' qualities at some point.

Many readers have hailed the story for the fact that it's actually started a conversation about fiction, and has encouraged more people to read.

However, there was a recurring theme in the story that the main character was turned off by the man due to his body type. Readers feel that it was fat-shaming, and unnecessary to have chosen his weight as a reason to be repulsed.

We love the story, and commend anything that gets people talking about their real life experiences with uncomfortable encounters. If there's one thing 2017 has taught us, it's that it's painfully common for women to have felt pressured or unhappy with certain experiences - and if this starts a new conversation, then we're all for it.
